Tak awoke to the same sight he wakes to nearly everyday; green light filtering through the treetops. Yawning wide, he stood and looked down into the clearing from the height of his treeborn platform. He stretched his form to his full 5'6" and turned to the rope ladder. As he climbed down to the clearing below, Kiki, the panda cub scampered around the tree to meet him.
The clearing was surrounded by 9 equally spaced trees, a circle 40 feet in diameter. In the middle of the clearing is a menhir, a stone carved with druidic runes. Tak patted Kiki on her black and white head and moved to kneel at the base of the menhir. Every day, Tak spent two hours here, contemplating Nature and the nature of magic, fixing his spells in his mind for the day.
Today, however, would not be entirely routine. As Tak finished his meditations, replacing his spellbook, and standing he saw his mentor waiting patiently near the northern tree. Tak walked toward the elder heirophant and waited for him to speak.
"Takei, something has come to the Council's attention. Evil is again growing in power. Even now, a temple has been started. We have discussed and decided that you will be sent to investigate. Use your judgement in how best to deal with the trials you will face, and return to us whenever you are able. Do not forget what we have taught you, and when in doubt, listen to Nature. Care for Kiki, she will grow quickly and may be the difference between life and death. We have forseen that you will aquire help along the way, so keep your eyes and ears open for companions who will aid you. Now, go."
"As you wish," Tak stated.
He bowed to his mentor, then turned and ascended the rope ladder to gain his few possessions. As soon as he was equipped he began walking, Kiki falling in step along side, with only a momentary look back at his sanctum.
