| DTemplar504-11-05, 01:23 AM | Floating around Faerun is a new academy- an arcane academy- funded by many organizations in an attempt to get some mass-produced wizards on their side, the party joins at the elite of the class.... But I have only written up 3 teachers and the Princible. Teacher 1- A Shadow-walker involved in dimintional travel. He is attempting to escape, but so far his efforts are futile. Perhaps by utilizing the Teleporting teacher he can get off this pathetic world and into another place for power. He also seems to be more martially minded than most instructors... Level 24 (ECL 25), Alignment LE Teacher 2- A cluzzy teleportation instructor, who works because there's food. Lots of food. Level 30, Alignment CG Teacher 3- A Wild Elf Wild Mage, who specializies in alchemy, namely hallucagins. He teaches Diviniation, Planar Mechanics, and Duties (Dude, man! It's Cuthulu!) Level 27, Alginment CN Princible- A stern, no-nonsense guy who prefers have other people teach. Has a monotone voice...a lame...accent...so steady. Yep. Level 25, Alignment LN Other ideas for teachers include the following, and I would like some assistance on these, or replacement ideas. Abjuration (Seals, Wards, and Bonds) - Paranoia Mage Conjuration (Creation) - Sterotype (Teacher 1 in disguise) Conjuration (Summoning) - Red Dragon, who likes to eat his summons. Transmutation- Self-Improvement- Buff caster (more P.E than P.E) Transmutation- Telekensis and Others- Yoda-ripoff (Use the Force!) Evocation (elements)- The Gensai Bros. Evocation (Force)- The Yoda ripoff (Need I say more?) Necromancy- Ye olde Lich Illusion (Glamer)- Pixie Illusion (Figment)- Gnome Enchantment- A Succubus...now you see why the class is always full. Item Creation- A Half-Fey Warlock (explained later) History- ???? Magic 101- The Princible Biology- The Red Dragon. You see, Celestials don't taste good because... Spell-Like Abilities- The Half-Fey Warlock (your explenation is here) Roots of Magic 401- ???? Magic Development 424- ???? Metamagic- The Dreaded Simbul (currently over Faerun) Magic Solutations- The Pixie. Cleaver little ------. Tactical Uses- Buff Caster...who's also a dwarf. Suggestions would be most appricated. I do want to fill the blanks. Currently, the school presides over Faerun, and is floating around. |
| wingGodzilla04-11-05, 10:55 AM | I always like the thought of the Pale Master vs. the Necomancer. So if you are making a school you should think about maybe added both. Have them both hate each other. Even though they are working in the same field there ways of finding the knowage the dead can give is very different. Like two scienctists who wokd in the same field but go about it different. You know. Anyway it was something I liked doing when I was running something like you are doing now. The idea of classes having to work together yet work almost against each other at the same time...there is a lot that could be done with that. Now a necomacer class would be a scary class to begin with, with all the undead and opened bodies around. I would have the classes small and have my teacher rank performace from best to worst. With the worst being punished (like being beaten or whipped). If the same person continues to do bad in the class, that person would end up a undead subject in the classroom. Nothing like seeing your classmate one day and walk into class the next and he is a zombie standing in the corner. The pressure is high in the class but for those who make it out of the class will be the best they can be. Plus a little battle tested (as well they should be, performing under pressure all the time) With having a teacher using such extream teaching metheds, I would not be surprized if the others did not like them as well. But they do have to respect the quility of student that comes out of that classroom. So they put up with him/her/them. Hope this is a help and sorry if I rambled a little bit. |
| Dr. Fastin04-11-05, 12:03 PM | A few years ago I did a game just like that. It was alot of fun. Remeber that in any school there is more to learn than magic. The political enviorment that surrounds the school has to come in to effect at some point. Are there any classes that don't deal with magic specifiaclly? Each individual skill could have a diffreent teacher Knowlege: History- A loremaster or spellcasting based bard Knowlege: Religion- A cleric of Mystra or Tyr Knowelge: Dungeonering- A rouge/adventurer witha few ranks in spellcraft and use amgic device. Preform- Are bards allowed in the school? Craft (any)-A Dwarven spellcaster with alot of creation feats, magic weapons, and such magic idems are important to a wizards power base. Other details that you may want to include could be: Cook, Janator, Game Warden (A summoner or planner creature expert), Grounds keeper, Hospitol. Who defends the school in time of need? Are there any lessons on combat and matrial fighting techniques? Blade Singers, Eldrich Knights, Spell Swords, Arcane Archers, the list goes on and on. If the function of the school is create alot of mid to high level spellcasters then dont forget that there are alot of classes/groups that are really good at fighting wizards as well such as Monks, Rouges, and such are there any of them there to teach techniques as to counter the counter mages? What are the exames like? Sure written tests are important and all, but nothing beats real experience. Finding magic idems, going into anchient ruins, est. Does that help at all? |
| Crusher Nate04-11-05, 08:02 PM | How about an Enchanter who's enthralled with himself? He just can't seem to resist gazing into a mirror. And when he uses his magic on someone, he delights in making his victim tell him how beautiful he is. |
| DTemplar504-11-05, 11:10 PM | I appricate the ideas, but allow me to introduce my axe. Dr. Fastin- there are no Bards in the school- and I don't believe I want a rouge teaching Dungeoneering. I personally want teachers with stupid personality quirks- like the Wild Elf's drug inducing divinations :coolcthul or the kluzy teleport who doesn't even know where she is. I appricate the rest of your ideas, namely the extracurrcular (Culinary by the Red Dragon), but the mage-killers have been addressed in Tactics class. wingGodzilla- I'm using a Red Wizard of Thay for the Necromancer. He just gives the material and says go- he's there for the research grant. Of course, there's the Simbul to worry about.... Crusher Nate- I still think the Succubus is better- people would WANT to go to a class run by one of the sexiest creatures alive. |
| Crusher Nate04-12-05, 11:07 AM | Sorry; I skimmed through the list and didn't see the Enchantment entry. I see it now, though, since you've pointed it out to me. That is a good choice, all right. For Roots of Magic 401, how about an anti-establishment dryad who says magic has its roots in natural gals like her and men have stolen it and tainted it with their repressive patriarchal essence? |
| DTemplar504-12-05, 02:39 PM | Problem with that is that dryads can't go very far from their trees- and there aren't many trees flying around last I checked. Perhaps a Night Hag.... |
| Crusher Nate04-12-05, 04:24 PM | A Night Hag would work, too. I thought of a dryad mainly because the class is Roots of Magic. Get it? Dryad... tree... roots... okay, maybe it's not so funny. A nymph or mermaid might work, too, if they have a fountain there. |
| Wizzy of Eros04-14-05, 03:37 PM | I'd rather go to a class of a half celestial nymph to get my enchantments teached rather than a succubus :D ~*Nik |
| General_Ridley04-16-05, 05:09 PM | Necromancy should be a Lich, you had that right. now, on the subject of the teacher, I am creating a character who will in the future become a Lich. First, make him old beyond belief (i.e. 3,500 years). Second, he is probably specialist, and maybe even an Archmage. If possible, have him even be a Mage of the Arcane order, and make this school a subsidiary of the Arcane Order. |
| Need_A_Life04-17-05, 03:46 AM | Conjuration (Calling): A silent man who tries to undo the harm he once did when summoning a creature from the Abyss without proper protection. He has a black scar going from his left temple to the shoulder. He is paranoid that his students might have the same fate and teaches protection from [alignment] and its proper use more than the actual summoning. Varities of Magic (optional class): Warlock, Sorcerer, Wizard, Warmage, Wu Jen. They take turns teaching the various plusses and minusses of their various paths of arcane magic, encouraging people to follow their path instead of the other ones (making it hard for the students). Warlock: Tells how he can tap into the weave without strain. Sorcerer: Tells of the benefits of spontanous casting. Wizard: Tells the students how hard work pays of in the long run. Warmage: Tells the students the joys of blasting people in Mithril Full-plate (thanks to Battlecaster). Wu Jen: Tells the students how focusing on the powers of the five elements can make you surpass any downside that the specialization may bring with it. |
| DTemplar504-17-05, 03:19 PM | General_Ridley- The Lich is a Red Wizard of Thay- though the Princible might be of the Arcane Order (the school is funded by various organizations so nations can have their own wizards/sorcerers/wu jen/warmage/warlock/whatever) Need_A_Life- I already have a paranoia mage- and in my book, Conjuration [calling] is akin to Conjuration [summoning] and [teleportation]- and I have a Red Dragon and a clutzy wizard handling those two. "Perhaps I'll summon a balor to eat today..." The paranoia mage is in Abjuration, and is willing to teach anything BUT the most powerful of Abjuration- Dispel Magic. |
| Need_A_Life04-17-05, 03:30 PM | okay... besides, I was inspired from a book so it wasn't that original. Even down to the scar... except that it was smaller. but how about 'career counciling' as I also suggested? If we have to deal with it in RL I'll be damned if I let those wizards get away without it! |
| DTemplar504-17-05, 03:45 PM | Good idea- but that would be outside of the classes. |
| General_Ridley04-17-05, 05:09 PM | as far as history goes, I'd go with something ancient. not 3000 years ancient, but maybe around 6000 years ancient. go with the most ancient of dragons or some such idea. |
| Need_A_Life04-18-05, 04:26 AM | Misdirection is a common spell, used to avoid the teacher knowing you've forgotten things (detect thoughts). Invisibility is used by teachers to keep the students out of trouble. Symbols of Stunning + Wall of Force are used in various restricted corridors to stop students. Vengeful students use Explosive Runes to get back at teachers, causing the popularity of casting dispel on all mail before opening it to rise rapidly. |
