Yeah, we bought a splat book.

We even decided to use it.

It's one of those one-class books describing a new class and all its knooks and crannies. It's pretty balanced and we decided that it fits into our campain world.

The class, a "witch" is a arcane caster based off wisdom. The spell list looks like the one in the DMG with some more druidy spells at lower level.

Problem: How does arcane casting work when its based off wisdom and must be prepared like a wizard, spellbook and all? I just want to see if anyone can come up with some reasoning behind it.

P.S. We play FR, if that helps any.

Mechanically its the same, obviously. In terms of justification, it really all comes down to the difference between Intelligence and Wisdom.

Intelligence is the ability to learn, remember and reason. Magic based on Intelligence is therefor complex in nature, lengthy to say the least, but is logical and based in law and truth.

Wisdom is less tangible than Intelligence. Its associated with theory and faith, and thus divine magic.

I think witch craft is a lot like arcane magic, except that its theories don't always make fundamental sense. Its the quantum mechanics of magic - it doesn't make sense, and it shouldn't work.. but it does. Its eyes of newt and tongue of blasphemous dog and whatever. Weird stuff that people shouldn't screw around with. Only, its been screwed around with by people.
