The Story Garen was the only son of a wealthy merchant. Since he was a small boy, Garen has been obsessed with wizardry. For many years he studied every text and bit of magic lore that came through the small town in which he lived. It was dificult, having no master under whom to study, but Garen persevered. Finally, when he was 15 all his hard work and study paid off; or so he thought. Garen managed to create a small, flickering flame above his hand. It wasn't quite what he had been trying for, but there could be no doubt that this was magic. Soon after this, Garen began walking about town in the most gaudy robes, always carrying with him a magic wand, waving it about and speaking arcane verse. He also began to refer to himself(and insist that others do so as well) as Arcanus, Harbinger of Destiny. Garen was well liked in the town, so the townsfolk didn't much mind his idiosyncracies. As time passed Arcanus' power grew, but something wasn't quite right. A few of Arcanus' spells seemed to work fine, but many of them would go off with the expected flash and bang, but in the end have no result. After several years of research, trying to understand why this was, Arcanus decided to venture forth and seek the great mage Elminster. Perhaps he could provide the answer to this strange magical conundrum. The Truth Garen(or Arcanus) is not, in fact, a wizard at all. All his studying, and attempts to teach himself magic failed, utterly and completely. When he was 15, however, his sorcerous talent began to manifest. Arcanus keeps a spellbook with many spells in it. However, he only actually knows a few of them. Every other spell he casts is actually an illusion(which Garen doesn't even know he can cast). Now, this may be the wrong forum for this, but where I need help is in choosing spells. I need some low-level spells that will allow me to mimic the effects of other spells, as well as other spells that fit the theme of the character. Also, any magic item suggestions would help. I'll be starting somewhere around level 6-7 and have starting gold accordingly. Garen's stats are as follows(25 point buy): Str 8 Dex 10 Con 13 Int 14 Wis 10 Cha 16
