I'm DMing a campaign and one of my players decided to play a warforged artificer. Other than making items, he wasn't really doing much in the game though. During battle he just runs around buffing other people, not really doing much damage. He said it was because all of his infusions take 1 minute to cast so he didn't want to cast any during battle.

I was leafing through the Eberron campaign setting and found the action point rule, which drops the casting time from 1 minute to 1 action. The thing is, I'm not playing Eberron campaign setting, and I definately do not want to add action points to my game. Can someone give me some advice on how to advise him to proceed? Such as how to actually play an artificer?

There's a lot of mechanical advice for how to build and play an effective artificer here (http://boards1.wizards.com/showthread.php?t=520855).

What level is the Artificer? What level is the party? If they're level 1, he'll probably be running around shooting his crossbow, dropping the occasional buff. If he's high enough level to craft wands (or if the party has simply found some), he could be blasting a fair amount. Actually, come to think of it, he could do a bit of blasting from scrolls...
