I have a general idea that I want to do but I have no backstory. I want to make an artificer type character who doesn’t blast with wands and stuff, but makes really powerful arms and armor. He searches for rare metals and gems. So my question is why would my character have such an obsession and not be a dwarf, or raised by a dwarf and what not.

I am completely dry for the story on this character, I am pretty good with anything else but a backstory for a character such as this is stumping me, so any help would be greatly appreciated.

Well, try a few ideas:Religious, Obseive, or Fasinated. Your character may find fasination or intrest in the way of swords and how wonderous they are. He might want to make differnt swords and someday make a new sword that beats out all others. He might be obsesive with the item becuase the hero that might have saved his life was a Smith or had used many weapons. He might take a great religious intrest and loves the weapon of the patron or likes the way his armor looks. He, wheter it is even a he, has all of these options available and more.

Could have been rescued by a construct like a WF and wants to be as much like one as possible.

Or, likes to dabble in the modification of armor, which may have its dangers.

Doesn't trust the party wizard to make him stuff :shifty:

name is escaping me but the starmetal prestige class in the complete arcane sounds ideal for this an obsession with starmetal to further your transformation led to an obsession with metallurgy and the forging of weapons and armour from rare and superiour materials

I was thinking that my father was an adventurer, on one of his ventures, he was attacked by a rust monster and nearly got his *** handed to him, he barely got away with both arms and a leg. Now, my character is trying to find the perfect combination of metals, magic, and alchemy to make his weapons/armors immune to the rust monster's touch.

Or, somewhat more logically, my character wants to make a big impression on his world, so powerful arms and armor that resist the wear of time can keep his legacy continuing on forever. He doesn't really care what the effects of his creations are on the world, if they are for good or evil, if wars are fought over his items and so forth, so probably he would be a CN character.
