| Sukugaru02-03-05, 07:50 PM | For the game this weekend, one of the other players announced he would be a gnome barbarian/rogue, and it sort of snowballed from there. Now I find that I have Grogosk, a neutral half-orc rogue (30 ft move and darkvision!). I have a background and some personality stuff worked out, I just wondered if anyone had any advice (apart from "Don't do it"), criticism, and/or tips for playing such a character. Background in summary: A unit of holy fighters was sent to deal with some orcs, but lost the battle. Grogosk's mother was one of them and was taken captive, and you can probably guess what happened to her. She and her fellow captives were eventually rescued by her church. The church, being tolerant, wasn't about to kill a baby based on just his race. The church and his mother weren't tolerant enough to keep him around though. Grogosk ended up in the Thieves' Guild - either as a baby or a young'un. Not having much choice, the very bright (for a half-orc) boy stayed there, learning the tricks of the catburglar, because he was useless at conning or intimidating people. Time passed (as it does) and eventually the old leader of the Thieves' Guild was killed off by a hopeful young upstart. This upstart was nowhere near as tolerant as the old guy, and meant to get rid of all the half-orcs in the guild. Grogosk urged them all to run, but many of them weren't bright enough to evade capture or even to run in the first place. Thoroughly annoyed with humans, the general stupidity of his own kind, and orcs, Grogosk escapes into the night, never to return. Personality in summary: He has an air of annoyance with everything in general, and a bit of a temper. He likes machines, because they're predictable, they hardly ever discriminate against him because of his race, or think that he's just "some dumb half-orc." (Being low-level, he hasn't yet encountered magic devices... :) ) He likes to play with people's expectations of dumb half-orcs a bit - for example, after a successful sneak attack he yells "Grog SMASHED!" He adventures because it gets him away from people in general and if he does it well enough, he might make a name for himself other than "some dumb half-orc." And I've been working on this sort of hissing growl, that should come in handy when he's annoyed. :) There is at least one unanswered question: Was he adopted into the Thieves' Guild (because, perhaps, they were the best on offer when the church did the rounds), or was he adopted into another family and escaped from them when young? I prefer the first option, but I don't really see a typical Thieves' Guild taking in abandoned babies. |
