Background ideas [Archive] - Wizards Community

02-05-07, 07:22 PM This is what i have so far as a background for my CG cleric. It is wrote as is he said it.

My name? My name is Yuri. You want to here my story, don’t you? I guess I’ll tell you a piece of my tale. I grew up in the Elf town of Baron. I have grown up in a family of clerics. We are an order of Corellon. All of my family are clerics. As in the way of family tradition I have became a cleric. I have not exactly “fit in” as a cleric but I cannot stray from the traditions of my people. When I was initiated into the brotherhood I was given a magical necklace. I haven’t discovered its true power yet. I keep it hidden at all times, and a very limited number of people know about its existence. One day I may understand the power and consequences of this great device, but at this time I know very little about it. The secrets of the my connections as a cleric, are tied in with the bounds of the ties of my families history.
Early in my life my family was torn by the ravages of war. I lost 3 brothers to them evil things… dwarves… how I hate them. I have sworn a vendetta against all dwarves. They attacked my family… We would have been destroyed by them if we were not helped by some allies. It may seem strange but we had found an ally in the dark dwarves. It is how you say maybe an “unholy alliance”? We had a common goal though. Destruction of dwarves is our goal. When I was very young, on my left wrist was burned the seal of my family. It is a way to show our unity. When I show mark to the dark dwarves, they will let me pass unharmed. Normally, if I walked in there uninvited they would rip me to shreds. The blood shed my relatives and brethren will not have spilled in vain. It is my ultimate goal to make the dwarves shed their blood as repayment to my family.

Any ideas, suggestions, or ways to improve? I will be doing more work on it when I get more ideas. Any connents or suggestions are highly appricated. Thanks.

02-05-07, 08:07 PM Well, while the overall story isn't bad, I do have one small qualm about it. Seems to me that elves are too chaotic and freewilled and spirited to really care about the family tradition. I will admit that maybe the campaign setting's elves are different...Eberron elves are VERY different than FR elves and Dragonlance elves. But just a racial stereotype, hey it's a fantasy world, seems to me they wouldn't care much about continuing down the family career if that's not what that particular elf wanted to do.

Just my 2cp...

02-06-07, 08:58 AM I would suggest looking at some of the different elf gods. Corellon does seam right for the story. Also you seam a little off CG, almost more LN.
