| ieattrollsforbreakfast08-11-03, 02:20 PM | I need some help figuring out a background for a young troll character that isn't evil, but still has all the basic insticts as a troll, just not kill everything that moves. I thought of going with the 'brought up by humans when found abandoned' but thats too cliche. Any ideas? |
| Theocracity08-11-03, 03:58 PM | How about "abandoned in the sewers as a young one?" He grew up living in the sewers of a large city, and through luck managed to meet some other sewer urchins who taught him how to live. Living in the sewers meant not attracting attention to himself and calling the guards down to wipe out the sewer communities; thus, he learned to live as a thief, not a bloodthirsty monster. |

| eagleye08-12-03, 05:25 AM | how about that he was a servant to a rich, well-known gnome wizard (with the stereotipical high wizard's tower and pseudodragon familiar) but was sold by the gnome's brother when the wizard died. he was bought by a human slave-driver but escaped. the troll learned basic mannerisms from the wizard, and has a little faith in people who treat him well. he has a basic, though black and white idea of what "respect" is. |

I like the slavery idea, its original and gives him a reason to hate but to not kill, in that he used to be punished very badly for trying to eat the wizard's familiar :D amongst other things. Thanks for the help guys, I think I might incorporate the sewers idea too...perhaps after being sold and escaping/eating his owner, he could have lived in the sewers for a year or so, teaching him to be quite some of the time, to avoid the attention of more dangerous sewer dwellers, or even the town guard. Its perfect! |
