History:
Ilmaril comes from a poor fishing family in waterdeep. Through some of his grandfathers connections from his early
adventuring days Ilmaril was accepted into a monastic fighting order as a part-time student. He had a large family,
and as the youngest brother he didn't have to work as much as the rest of the family.
He could study there most of the day, being lectured by monks in religion, inner balance and how everything had its place.
And, of course, how to defend yourself if you where attacked.

During the years, Ilmarils sister managed to save som extra money from her merchanting, and together with her brothers they managed to save enough money to buy a small fishing boat. It wans't much to look at, but at least it was theirs. the middle brother, Kari, named after his frandfather Karil, was
proficient in carpentry/minor shipwright and during his tutelage the family started to work on their ship, to get it shaped up in time for the coming fishing season.
The oldest of the three brothers, Jaruk, was a very accomplished fisherman, with a luck, or skill, unseen in generations. At least by the family and their friends
That is how they were able to buy the boat and start the family on the road to prosperity.

However, during his adolescent Ilmaril lost someone precious to him. One of his friend was brutally robbed and murded in the streets of Waterdeep. This put a great mark in Ilmaril and he could feel the frustration and anger building up in him. He talked to the monks about it, but soon found out that their methods didn't help as musch as they, and he, wanted it to. However, he learned to supress his anger and he let it build up inside him for quite some time. Until he got involved in underground streetfighting clubs. He felt at home there, being able to vent his anger and at the same time not hurting anyone who, so to speak, "wasn't in on it."
He made some new friends there, one of them was Ragnar, the drunken priest of Tempus. They had lots of talks during the nights, often sitting in an inn or maybe watching one of the fights in the arenas. Ragnar talked alot about Tempus, the god of Battle, who blessed all the fights witrh his unending glory. The god of Battle, who encouraged fighting. This was something different from what the monks teached. Their ways of not hitting a man, even if he hit you first, seemed more and more far away from Ilmaril.
Some of the monks had noticed a change in Ilmaril since the death of his friend, and often asked him about it. When he gave them the silent treatment or said that it was nothing, they let him be.
He started to question his teachers in long philosophical discussions and eventually he expressed his feelings about their way, that it felt wrong to him.
One day, a particularly troublesome day, he lashed out in anger against one of the other monks.
It didn't take long until he was sent up to the abbot and had a long, long talk with him about the philosphy about their order.
You are still Young, and learning about yourself and your beliefs. There is nothing wrong with being hesitant to your beliefs and seeking other paths. Your path, however, seems to stray from our path. And today you broke one of tha most basic rules of this order.
I advise you to leave on a journey and discover who you are. To find your beliefs, and the wisdom of finding oneself. Maybe when you feel more secure about yourself, you can come back to us, to our beliefs. And if not, well everybody has to find their own paths.

Ilmaril thinked long and hard about what the abbot had said until he talked about it with his family. He explained to them how he felt lost in this world, how he needed to go out, see the world with his own eyes, see that there where more than tha monastery, more than the fighting arenas, more than the life of a fisherman. More than Waterdeep.
Contrary to what he believed, his decision to leave was supported by his family. They would get along fine without his help, now that they had the fishing boat. And if things continued as well as it had the two years the had owned it, the're wouldn't be any need to worry about barely making a living anymore, they would be estabilshed fisermen in a wfew years. Maybe even own a bigger fishing ship.

Ilmaril decided that he would leave in a tenday.
The next day, one of the monks from the temple arrived with a letter to Ilmaril. It was from the abbot, who told him that Ilmarils grandfather had told him about Ilmarils decision to leave, and he wished him luck on his journey and said that whenever he stops by waterdeep again, it would be nice if he would come by the monastery and tell the abbot about his journeys.

When Ragnar heard about it, he decided that maybe it was best if Ilmaril had someone by his side. He had been out in the world before, and it could be a dangerous place. Besides, he had grown tired of this city, Ilmaril could need a man of the cloth by his side to preach about the glory of Tempus, and more importantly, Ilmaril could need a friend, a comrade. And, he said, he needed to see some real action.

So it happened that Ilmaril decided to leave waterdeep to see the world, together with his friend Ragnar.

During his adventures, he met a lot of people. Some of them where good, some of them ehere bad, and some of them just where.
He met damsels in distress, lousy villains and godblessed heroes, he made friends, lost friends and made new friends again, Never forgetting his old comrades.
Some of them left to adventure with other people, some f them setlted down, many where wounded in battle and one even died by his own blade. A tragic tale, as are all tales about the real world.

Ilmaril adventured along the sword coast, saw the deserts of Calimshan and the forests of tethyr.

He worked as many thins, caravan guard, city watch, treasure hunter and bounty hunter. But he alwasys tried to stay true to himself and his ideals.

In the later years Ilmarils main profession has been in the watch in the city of Athkatla
