| klode_me05-04-05, 10:30 AM | does anyone know a good background to a human saint(BoED) healer, especially about the sacrifice. Requirements to aquire the template: 1) Must be of good alignment. 2) Must have at least 3 exalted feats. 3) Must have never lost the benefits of exalted feats or class abilities because of committing an evil act, even if the character atoned. 4) Must at all times behave in a way the DM considers to be exemplary of the exalted path described in the BoED. 5) Must be at least 6th level. 6) Must make an extraordinary sacrifice (not necessarily his or her life) for the good of another. |
| Gurthoron05-04-05, 10:53 AM | This is a tough one, and I'd suggest asking your DM what they feel is appropriate. My DM's example was a Vow of Poverty person using the three uber-good items in a challenge against the champion of evil, losing the Vow of Poverty benefits due to this action but continuing to adhere to the rules of Vow of Poverty after the challenge. This is why I have never played a saint in one of our campaigns: Its extremely difficult to find a suitable sacrifice that leaves you as a functioning person, due to resurrection etc. For a healerperhaps a sacrifice that deprived you of your unicorn companion for some reason (You had to abandon it to prevent its destruction or something) or violating your healers oath about armor for some greater purpose. Sainthood is not meant to be a template you apply just for a bonus. Its meant as something to be given to a character after they got screwed over for some reason. The sacrifice should be something that you would prefer to the sainthood; That is what makes it such a sacrifice. |
| klode_me05-04-05, 11:19 AM | can i make the sacrifice into the background, because i donīt want to do the sacrifice in game, and i am an 18th, so there were plenty of time to do it. Maybe sacrifice: 10 years of preying to my deity (Pelor) and heal my allies and creatures of good alignment, showing mercy and charity, and forgive the evil creatures who wants to be good, and pay 20000GP (Or maybe more) to save the poor. Does that sound okay? |
| Gurthoron05-04-05, 12:16 PM | Well, lets see about those. Heal allies and creatures of good alignment Showing mercy and charity Forgiving/redeeming evil creatures All those are things any cleric of Pelor should be doing on their own. Thus, there is no sacrifice in doing them as they should be the action your character takes. 10 years of praying to Pelor This again is something your character should probably do anyway. While he may have been adventuring instead of praying to Pelor, this just shows your exceptionally devout. 20000 gp for the poor First off, this barely scratches the surface of your funds (assuming your using DM money table for gp) and as such isn't much of a sacrifice. To qualify for saint, I'd suggest far more money used. However, if you go this route consider the establishment of an establishment for the poor. You would have to pay to build it and its upkeep, payment for employees, etc. but this would have a longer lasting effect for the community. Still, its a pretty poor sacrifice. The sacrifice should be something you cannot regain, at least not without extraordinary measures. Perhaps you lost an arm in some heroic act, and cannot regain in. (Forcing a great evil into a sphere of annilation, and your arm got caught in it) That was just the first thing coming to mind. Thought 2: In a battle to redeem a fallen paladin, you sacrificed your soul to free his from the Abyss, and restored him to his former honorable self. However, your soul is now bound to the abyss, so you are doomed to go there when you die, for an eternity of torment. Thought 3: (Depends upon background) Lets say your parents were killed by a marauder of some kind, and you swore vengeance upon that marauder. When you finaly meet him, and have the battle, it is interrupted by the attack of a larger threat. The two of you fight togeter, and defeat it, but you sacrifice youself to save his life. The sacrifice is that you expect to die there, alone, without having vengeance. However your enemy takes you and gets you resurrected. You could even have a member of your party as the person in question, with the two of you struggling with your old hatreds and his struggle for redemption. As previously stated, talk to your DM. Also, when looking at possible sacrifices, always ask the question "Would an Exalted character do this as a normal part of their life, or as a rare thing they decided to do for the greater good?" |
| Need_A_Life05-06-05, 10:49 AM | I have a loose idea for you. Klode (that's you) looked at Feldon, the man had betrayed their trust and had it not been for his objections his friends would've executed Feldon. It had been only luck that had saved them from Feldons betrayal, if it hadn't been for a squirrel falling down from a tree and landing in his face Klode would've never even found out what happened. But when he had, he had seen Feldon holding his dagger ready to plunge it into his chest. All the normal behavior of Klode was gone and he acted as an animal, kicking away the knife and jumping to his feet while yelling, to wake the others up. They had quickly overpowered him and on Klodes order tied him up. Klode was ripped out of his thoughts as arrows began raining down upon them, he watched as his friends were getting hit by so many arrows that even just half of them would've killed them, but for some reason no one had targeted him. Feldon had only been struck by a few arrows, but had lost conciousness (sp?) and was bleeding heavily from a wound in the chest, throwing himself into the wall of arrows Klode made it to Feldon with heavy injuries, he mumbled a prayer to Pelor while blood ran down his face and chest. White light flew from his fingers and into Feldons body, closing wounds and restoring blood as well as awareness. "Go!" Klode yelled to Feldon, "Run!" He barked at his former enemy, he had deserved another chance. How he had made it out of there; he wasn't quite sure, the loss of blood made him disoriented but his sword wasn't covered in blood, though his hands were. Stumbling away from his dead comrades and his place of shame, Klode thought not a single thought- he was still in shock, he didn't even remember where his friends were only that he had let Feldon run. Dropping to his knees, Klode turned his head towards the sky and wailed hopelessly, even if he could find his friends, what could he do? He didn't possess the powers it took to bring them back and even if he did, how could he face them? "Pelor, forgive me!" He yelled even as his eyes filled with salty tears, as he drew his sword with regret, "Accept my sacrifise!" He begged as he plunged the sword into his abdomen and let himself fall onto the ground. Warmth. Water. Pain. Darkness. Klode was disoriented; where was he? Had it all been a dream? Would he see his friends now? He even hoped to see the face of Feldon, but when he finally had the strength to open his eyes, he saw the face of a priest. The symbol carried by the priest showed that he was a priest of Pelor, and he put his hand on Klode's forhead and smiled warmly, "Pelor must have plans for you, young one. If I had gotten there only a few minutes later you'd have been beyond my skill," The priest said and put away his herbs and potions, "The powers bestowed upon me by Pelor can only do so much," He explained. Or something like that. |
