However, I'm not the kind of person who would just power game it into the ground, so I came up with a somewhat interesting storyline to go along with it. Basically, he's this guy (17) who has been growing up in this small farming town. The only catch is that everyone in the town has some long forgotten magical heritage and is a sorcerer. My character resents both his family's magical abilities and the way they hide them. Then, one day he had a vision of a god he had never even heard of, beckoning him to service. Long story short, the god turns out to be Bahamut, and wants him to embrace his magical (draconic) heritage as part of his paladin training. That's basically where I've left it. Only problem I have is: How do I get my DM to implement the story without overstepping my bounds as a PC? The camp starts at level 1, and so I'm a paladin right now...how do I make the switch? |

Have you thought about switching it and starting as a sorcerer learning of his latent talents only to find out they came from Bahamut and he feels compelled to become a Paladin in Bahamut's service? It seems to be an easier transition when mulitclassing as a paladin to not start play as one. My favorite and longest lasting pc to date is a human fighter raised by dwarves who worshiped Clangeddin Silverbeard. To make a long story short he angered a powerful demon and instead of running with the rest of the party he prayed to Clangeddin, fought and miraculously killed the demon and has been a paladin wholly devoted to his god ever since. |

He doesn't even have to get his sorcerous powers from Bahamut himself. He could just find out about his draconic heritage and feel the calling to try and serve as a champion for it. Maybe the dragon in his ancestry was a celestial dragon. I find characters who have somewhat simple, humble beginnings but later on become powerful and famous to be more rewarding than starting out as someone chosen by a god, etc. |

Most DMs are happy to incorporate player backgrounds/stories etc. provided they a) aren't giving the player an advantage over the others and b) are not announced at the lsat minute, thus destroying some carefully worked out game plot. |
| Morka08-29-03, 10:54 AM | The original idea is good, but instead of coming from a village where everybody has sorceror power, this could be just your familly, or just 2 or 3 persons by generation. Once again, it might be better to start as a sorceror, and then have a revelation from Bahamut, and turn to be a paladin. If you want to be paladin first, you can have shown some magical ability in your youth, but it should have been told you that this is "evil". So you become a paladin, but after a few encounter, the call is too important and you become a sorceror. |
