| ZeroSpace900002-13-08, 01:03 AM | I'm designing a backup PC for the game I'm playing in, and was wondering what you all thought of him. Graff, Fighter4 Barb2 (plan to take Suel Arcanamach at lvl8) Worshipper of Kord LN Str18 Dex16 Con16 Int12 Wis14 Cha16 As for Backstory, he's an ex-mercenary whose company was wiped out (save for him) by Drow on an Underdark expedition. He carries around a 'Big Freakin Mace(tm)' (A warmace), and is your typical rough mercenary-type, not very sophisticated. He prefers a brutal fighting style, emphasized by Power Attack, Shock Trooper, and later Brutal Strike (The one that nauseates when you PA with a blunt weapon), as well as his ability to get really ******-off(Re-flavour for rage). I'm just wondering about how to flesh him out a bit more. To date, there has been a fair amount of role-play, and that sadly is my weakpoint. |

Barbarians can't be lawful, you might want to find another alignment... That's a pretty high Charisma to play as a grunt... You could prepare a few colorful insults in advance to taunt your foes or simply answer any NPC. You could maximize your Intimidation and take the feat Intimidating Rage, or the Exotic Weapon Master PrC, there's a stunt that allow you to better intimidate your opponent... As for the background, just try to think, does your character has/had familly? What happened to them? Who trained him? Local militia, some private teacher, his mercenary unit? What the heck a mercenary unit was doing in the underdark? Perhaps the captain of the unit never told, leaving a plot hook for the DM if he wants you to return there. Like, finding some magic item/artefact, etc. See my sig for some quirks, and some question that help you think about your PC background. |

You may well have been a squad leader. This can be emphasized by deffering to the group's leader but expecting all others to follow your commands, especially in the heat of battle. I'd avoid being a negotiator but you may want to put ranks into intimidate. Play up the on-edge attitude in RP encounters and have the player who does do negotiations use you for a "bad cop", a role you may well have served for your previous employer. |

Just the kind of second-in-command who, when the hateful general/king mutters to "Kill them all", screams to the rest of the platoon: "TO WAR! NO QUARTER!" :P :fight!: :smirk: |
