I was thinking of making a D&D character that was basically a bail bondsman, but I'm not sure how a bail bondsman in D&D's adventure filled world would act or what he would do, I would assume he would also proabably try to catch the guys who try to fly the coop while on bail, like a bounty hunter.
Alot of the inspiration for the attempt comes from the bail bondsman character in the Tarantino movie Jackie Brown, just thought I would throw that in for the info.

Well, I can suggest a build here;

Human (Dalelander/Tethyrian) Ranger/Bloodhound + perhaps level or two in assassin if evil aligned. Favoured enemies would be obviously humans but besides that I cannot give much becuase I am not familiar whit the characther but I can give good tips for bountyhunter characther in generall. I would vote for DMG II improved version of bane weapon (a +2 enchament but it allows extra damage on critical hit and also detects foes by glow when bane targeted inviduals are 100'ft away) and get somesort exotic weapon like light repeating crossbow and more coolness factor take two whit self-reload enchament and dual wield them :D.

Bail Bondsmen are really an American invention because the bail is so high. Most countries one has to pay significantly less. Thus, it is of note in a fantasy world the bail would have to be rather high where ever you are working for you to actually have customers.

It is rather likely the local government may not like you very much since they will see you as subverting them by allowing people to go free that they think should not. In general, I would say your character should be tough with a strong sense of personal justice for adventure ideas:

-Your client gets killed in jail while still in negotiations. Find who did it and take out reparations on them.
-The local authorities have just instituted means to undercut your business. Go through a crazy adventure that proves them wrong.
-Your client offers you a treasure map / stolen merchandise / other non-immediate cash items. You accept and work to go collect.
-Your client tries to run for it. "Persuade" him that that is a bad idea.
-One of your clients is convicted of an unlikely crime, probably because of your involvement. Figure out who is to blame and take care of them.

This character would definately be one independent mamma jamma. Taking in clients and taking out weasles, I love it. Definately the vigilante type, you might also want to consider the justicar for his abillity to take those varmits back alive. Whatever you decide, play it out, and see how that cowboy suits ye.

Thanks everyone for the ideas, and to LefferDP for the knowledge droppin'. I will almost definitely use this character for something. Just for the info I was thinking more Rogueish than Ranger, but everything will be considered.
Btw where would I find a Self-Reloading enchantment at? My friend has been searching for a way to dual-wield light cross-bows forever now.

Talk to the gnomes. They like things like that. ^.^

I don't think there actually is such an enchantment in any books that I know of, but that seems a good rationale if you want to make one.

I think Arms ad Eguipment guide had one, a one which had 100 bolt sin extra dimensional space and it re-loaded as free action via magic and was +1 enchament I think. But I woud recomend still a light repeater crossbow.
