| torqboy108001-17-04, 12:34 PM | I have this half-orc barbarian chica :smirk: named GMC (short for Greta the Man-Crusher) She's a military genius, with tactics and such, and she only kills in fights or goes into rage once someone draws steel. (she's CG) I'm new to the rp'ing thing, cause all our previous campaigns have been full-on powergaming. So do you cool rp'ers havany insight on background, mania, goals, or further character development? Is there any website out there that has good rp basics? thanks a lot for the help |
| Morka01-19-04, 10:17 AM | Usually, the thing about half-orcs background is their parents. Is she the product of a rape, or the fruit of a true love? In the first option, how did it happens? The mother was a slave who finds the will to escape once she saw she was pregnant, or the child live a few years in the orcish clan before being freed by Purple Dragons? Or the mother was raped during an orc raid? Still for the rape idea, it could be the reverse, rarely seen here: a female orc victim of crazy adventurers; ashamed, she fled the clan to raise the child alone... In the second option, how could an human fall in love with an orc? A true love between a slave and an orcish healer? I once read about a human barbarian who's destiny was to found a familly with the first woman he met, and it was a female orc... Find the circumstances around the birth of your character, and the rest shall follow... :) |

And that is what shapes us all. We are each the sum of our experiences. I would like to add that the concept of a barbarian who is a master tactician and military genius seems out of place to me. Barbarians place a great deal of emphasis on PERSONAL battle prowess, and generally very little on group/military tactics. Barbarians are fearsome warriors one-on-one, but they generally have no patience for ordered formations, battle drills and all the rest. That's what barbarian RAGE is all about, baby! So, if oyu want to keep the whole military genius thing going, you may want to revise her classs to Fighter instead. She will gain alot more feats that way and will certainly have a tactical advantage over her more common barbarian Orc cousins. Perhaps she is the daughter of a great Orcish general? One who captured her mother as a human slave? He saw the potential in his daughter after she killed the first orc who tried to take advantage of her - barehanded. Something liek that perhaps? As far as goals she might have, consider the probable lot in life of a typical Orc female. They are not highly regarded at all, and in most cases are seen as little more than possessions in most campaigns I have played in. This would put this character in an interesting position. She is strong enough to stand on her own, being truly her Father's daughter. If she is not fiercely strong, then I would make her extremely agile to offset the advantages of the larger, stronger Orc males. One of her goals may be to proive her worth or even to rise to a position of power in the clan. Or, if she has left home becasue her lot in life sucked as an Orc female, perhaps she is trying to find new ways to test herself in the wide world. And when she gets strong enough.................look out back home! |
| Twilly01-20-04, 03:37 PM | She might be a woman with great temperament. She tries control her anger, but sometimes it is just to much. She forgets her militairy tactics and good behaviour. She is easily provoked and sometimes reacts in a very assertive way. - Somebody knocks on your door while you are working out a strategy. You react irritated : WHAT! :headexplo . When a friend enters the room you realize that you overreacted and you apologize. - Hope this helps. |

Both her mother and her are kept as slaves and both are the victims of rape. After your character escapes/is liberated she grows up harboring terrible mental and phisical wounds but instead of taking this pain out on society she chooses to work to end slavery and the abuse of women. Thus she becomes a champion and protector of women for the life that was stolen from her and the mother that was taken from her. I would suggest multiclassing into Devoted Defented or possibly Holy Liberator if the character has faith. Her rage would spring from outrage at the injustice done to her gender on a daily basis. This character may be a god canidata for Sacred Vow and Vow of Chastity from the BoED. I cannot remember the benefits those feats give but it woudl mesh with the cahracter to swear off sexuality in devotion to her greater goal. This will work very well of there are slave based cultures in the campain. It will work especially well if there is onother female character that shares her views. Now this sort of character can be too heavy for alot of groups so be sure to discuss it with yoru DM and the other players. Puskara |
