Hey all,
I'll soon be playing a Human Barbarian2/Totemist2 in a homebrew campaign with heavy Greyhawk leanings. The nature of the campaign (a long-lost city reappears empty, Atlantis-like, and adventurers the world over come to see what lies within its ruins) allows for any professional-adventurer type, with any sort of motivation (treasure-seeking, thrill-seeking, following up on rumors of an ancient artifact or lost spell, divine-appointed quest, etc etc).

All I've got for my character thus far is that he is very devout to Kord, seeking glory and honor. He's CG, placing more importance on personal honor and the spirit of an agreement than on the letter of laws. I plan on going into Totem Rager (Magic of Incarnum). He is litterate. Because I rolled phenomenally well, his 4th-level abilities are (in order) 18,16,17,12,15,16 when not raging. Very alert in both natural (spot/listen) and social (gather information cross-class) settings. Otherwise, he's ye olde greatsword-wielding Conan-style barbarian, with an intuitive grasp of incarnum.

A barbarian gloryhound is all well and good, but that's very broad. I have no good ideas for a detailed background, specific driving goals, etc. Help?

What's his background? Think about his tribe, and the values he grew up with. Is his viewpoint rebellious, or his goodness considered softness? Is he the result of his tribe? TRADITION! TRADITION! He could be on a quest to prove himself a man, or to gain his place as leader of his tribe. Perhaps he is avenging their destruction/ dishonor? Exiled for a misdeed (percieved/accidental/intended?)? Seeking to regain his honor? Fulfilling a hastily made vow? Left to join a band of adventurers?

Hope that helped, and I'll be interested what you decide, so keep us posted...

I'm picturing him as the product of his tribe, who generally seek glory in fair and honorable combat, hunting, etc. The "clan vengence," "test to prove leadership worth," and "kicked out for a perceived slight" are all angles being explored either by myself or my wife in this or another game we both play in, so I'd prefer to avoid those so as to not beat a dead horse. Great concepts, just currently occupied.

Fulfilling a vow made in haste is a good plan, though. I like that a lot, the more I think of it. I picture him as kinda brash, willing to bite off more than he can chew on a regular basis, so that fits well. Thanks for the help, interpretivechaos. :)

The vow is something I can come up with easily enough. I'd still appreciate any character quirks, or (even better) interesting ideas on tribal customs that my tribe might hold as sacred or at least traditional. Tribe is largely CN to CG, big into Kord-following. My thanks in advance for any tips; I'm just not used to playing primitive types.
