| Glasgow07-27-03, 10:21 PM | What is forgotten realms based on, D&D, d20, warhammer? (sorry if this is a dumb question, I am new to Role Playing) |
| Herr Doktor07-27-03, 10:41 PM | Well... I suppose any fantasy-type influences that were occuring when Ed Greenwood began to write realms material, and the original D&D game was the first systen it was played I believe... It's based on the imaginings of Ed Greenwood as well as the rest of the shared world Forgotten Realms authors as well as whatever influenced them to write what they did. It's really hard to say. |
| Fiantha07-29-03, 07:22 PM | I think (emphasis on THINK) that Glasglow is asking what rules system Forgotten Realms uses. The answer is the Forgotten Realms is a Dungeons and Dragons world, using the rules in the three core rule books (Players Handbook, Dungeon Master's Guide and the Monster Manual) as well as the Forgotten Realms Handbook. All these books are published by Wizards of the Coast (WotC). D20 books use the same basic rule system as WotC books, but are not really official. You can use some of them with the D&D game, but they might not be as balanced and well tested as the "official" books. (Please don't argue with me, I know that many d20s are well balanced and some WotC stuff isn't, I'm just saying you need to be a little more careful with d20s.) It's not a dumb question, we were all new once. I've been playing for 3 and 1/2 editions, I still don't know what Warhammer is. Hope this helps, if I got the whole gist of the question wrong, all I can say is "Whoops" --Fiantha |
