I have been thinking of doing a character that focus not on damge spells in the battlefield but more of Manipulating the Battlefield with spells like changing or modifying the area with earthquakes, entangle or something like that. The problem I am having now is which class would work best that can both have a good spells list and casting those spells during a day. any ideas?

You want the Character Op. Board, this is character development. Come back here when you want a background for your character.

Just off hand though, id probably say druid or cleric.

Maybe consider a favored soul, they cast those nifty divine spells spontaneously! That way you can adapt to the situation, still wear armor, and use weapons. Plus you get wings during higher levels, you could make a great general that way.

Hope this helps,

My first thought was a Sorcerer with spells like Grease, Web, Stinking Cloud, various Wall of X spells, Bigby's Y Hand etc. The Spell Sculpting and Widen Spell feats would also seem to be in order.

I once put together a PrC based partially around the concept and listed quite a few arcane "battlefield control" spells straight from the PHB and Spell Compendium.
