Hey guys. Well, in a month or two I will be co-DMing a play by post game with an online friend of mine. We have decided that each of us will be playing a solo character run in the same timeline, but will not interact with one another. Our builds are gestalt characters. First, a little backround on whats going on. The world is Rokugan. The Dragons are about to get into a conflict with the Phoenix and Lion over disputed lands. The dragons and phoenix are usually peaceful, and the lion addition to this conflict is surprising, considering their history. The scorpion are about to help the dragon, but must decide which course of action to take. While this is going on, The Shadow is re-immerging(sp?) in the scorpion lands, trying to ignite an interclan war to gain dominance. Here are our characters. Other guy: A dragon monk/swordsage. He is a practicioner of Shinsei, and is invited to Scorpion lands to root out the Shadow's influence and prevent disaster. Because of his outsider status in the clan, he will be trusted with his opinions and known not to be on the take with The Shadow or his allies in the clan. Me: I will play a scorpion courtier/ninja. He is responsible for cleaning up the mess that is the pending war. He may take a number of actions, such as getting the Lion out of the conflict, convincing all sides to back down, or bring in other clans into the war, such as the Unicorn or Crane. This could be done through many ways and means, but manipulation is his mainstay. Here is some of what I have for a backstory so far: Perhaps he was a noble of the Bayushi family who decided to enter service of his daimyo as a courtier, and then joined the Shosuro dojo to become a clan ninja. He could have spent the last 10 years getting elements of the Scorpion clan embedded into the societies of the other major clans, so as to have an eye and ear on the empire. This way, he knows of the comings and goings of the major houses in the clans and can react or be proactive as appropriate. He may have begun his duty as a courtier by acting as a trade emissary of the Scorpion to the Crane. There, he got locked into a chess match of wits and subtle manipulation, and honed his social skills to match those of the most intelligent and charismatic Crane. After his tenure was up, he went home and was told by his daimyo that his role would change in the clan, and that his responsibilities were about to grow significantly. He was to train as a ninja, and become a critical asset to the Scorpion families and their allies. His new responsibility was to infiltrate, under guise of ambassador, the other clans and further the goals of the Scorpion as he sees fit. He is given a long leash as to how he accomplishes his objectives, but his primary responsibility is gathering information and acting on that information as he sees appropriate. Does anyone have any suggestions on adding or improving to this? Thanks for you help. -Swany
