| wonderboy0601-27-05, 10:40 PM | I'm playing an adventure where my character is a wizard, it takes place in Thay. But my character is only 2nd lvl and dosent meet the requierments to take the PrC. So my question is when he is able how dose he go about this? Dose he have to go and become an apprentice or what? I was just wondering if anyone had any info on the initiation and organization of the Red Wizards. Also what dose the whole special: "+1 of existing class" mean? I just need that cleared up. Thanks :D |

Meaning that you cast spells per day as a 7th level wizard and you learn the standard amount of spells when leveling up like a wizard. But you don't gain anything else (Hp, BAB, class feats, saves, etc.) that a 7th level wizard would. Hope that clears it up a bit. If not I'm sure someone else can do a better job than me. Now with the roleplaying aspect of it, you should first tell your DM that you desire to go into the Red Wizard PrC. This makes it easier since your DM can help you with things. First you should probably go to the HQ of the Red Wizards and give them the request that you wish to join their ranks. Now I don't know much about the Red Wizards, but chances are you will have to stay a couple weeks to be instructed. And depending on your DM it might be longer but if he gives the party down time, but if not you can roleplay that they have given you books on the teachings of the Red Wizards. And prehaps they give you a mission to do. Come back every level up or so until you reach the desired level and become a Red Wizard. But really talk to your DM about it and discuss it with him or her. Good DM's just eat up this kind of character hooks and it will show some good RP aspects of your character if you role play it out. |

But you would probably have to do quests, have off time to "study thier scriptures" and their general "stuff" |

Unless such is your case, you will problably have to make a few changes to your character with your DM's approval. 1)You need to be specialized in a school of magic. This can only be done at first level, and as a wizard only. 2)You need the Tattoo Focus feat, a Regional feat available only to human specialist wizards from Thay. Being a regional feat, it is only available to 1st-level characters. 3) You also need, IIRC, two metamagic or item creation feats. That means only 1 free feat in the first 5 levels, and that's thankfully due to Scribe Scroll being a bonus spell. As far as R-P issues go, I imagine you start your arcane career as a Red Wizard's apprentice. No one but the red mages can use magic within the borders of Thay, I reckon, so it's not like you have much of a choice, is there? |
