Being Evil and getting away with it. [Archive] - Wizards Community

OK I'm going to try to make a long story short here. Basically, I started my character being Chaotic Good. We started the game doing quests for a powerful DEVIL-looking Overlord in your stereotypical evil black castle several miles outside the city of Waterdeep. He had us do some quests for him which for some reason everyone excepted.
Later on when exploring the some dungeon one member of the party releashed a large demonish-frankenstien type creature who was supposed to represent FIRE. Later on, another member busted a large aquarium that contained a Umberhulk with tentacles. It was supposed to represent the element of WATER and some people were thinking they might kill each other.
THey did exactly that! Unfortunately they did it by colliding with each other and causing one giant elemental explosion and I was at 0 hp already! So needless to say I took a lot of dmg 26 to be exact! I wish I would have realized that at 0 hp I could move and make saves but I thought I was unconsious.
So basically my corpse was a bunch of ashes. After this the Dm pulls me aside and says "OK you find yourself in a chamber before a throne--everything is a dreamlike state--Basically I appeared before the Devil guy that we've been doing quests for and said he would ressurect me if I agree to spy on my own group and inform him of everything that we do.
So I agree and come back to life with a symbol tatoo-ed on my hand! Later I ask him if I gained any abilities or anything else changed since I was going to be his super-secret spy! He's like, oh yeah---*whispers in my ear* Your alignment is Lawful Evil.
So Basically I have 3 questions
1. First, what things can I get away with being Lawful Evil and how should I roleplay it without making it obvious to other Players and Characters.
2. I may want to go ARcane trickster. What's a good way to Roleplay from Lawful Evil to Nuetral Evil.
3. How can I best get away with it all..The DM told me NOT to tell anyone PLAYER or CHARACTER that I'm lawful evil now. So I need to think of ways to do evil things without being caught AND hopefully find something to disguise my alignment!
Last but not least I started as a Wizard and I'm now a wiz 3/rog 1. I took the rogue class because I was hoping to be Arcane trickster. I'm having second thoughts now but I figure the one level of rogue will give me an excuse---and a few skills--to swipe something now and again.
ALso to make things more interesting there is another girl playing a half-devil/elf sorceress who has told every PLAYER that she is evil. In game she says her wings are her gift from Darkholme(we all got a gift after our second quest)

I'll cover number one and three first. Just because your evil dosn't mean you do blatently evil things. Evil doesn't mean robed in black and cakling. Evil characters can be going for the same goals good characters are, whether that means saving the world, killing a demon, or getting into a treasure chest. You don't necesarily have to commit evil acts outside of reporting your parties actions to the guy who revived you. If you feel the need too for role-playing reasons or otherwise, try to do them in a way that benefits the party and only seem overhanded. For example, lets say an orc is delaying your journey, but is willing to negotiate. Your character might pretend to agree, get close, and skewer him. You could claim that he would have done the same to you given the chance, so you were just taking initiative. Knowing the typical PC, this will probably go over well enough (unless there's a paladin in the group, which, it sounds like there isn't).

I'm not sure about the second one. you might want to talk to your DM about it. It really depends on the nature of your decisions and how you were made lawful evil.

yes, be ruthless when distributing punishment. Take no prisoners and burn your enemies' homes to the ground. I can't be too specific since i don't know your campaign.

Your mama didn't raise no dummies.

I am sure that you could get away with anyting as long as you are smart abuot just dont give the PCs any reason to question that anything is different about you do things behind their backs through third parties. Then go and get yourself a magic item that will hide your alignment. Untill then stock up on ranks in Bluff just incase there are any embarassing questions?

As far as Arcane Trickster goes... I think its a crappy class. I would suggest you buy yourself a good holiday gift and pick up Book of Vile Darkness. There are lots of beautiful beautiful classes in there for example. The Diabolist or any of the Disciple or Thrall classes

There was also another thread about being an evil character I belive it was called Corupt Character there was some good advice in there too.

Let us know how it turns out I personly love playing the evil characters but you will see that in the other thread.
