hello !

i am just in the process of creating my backup character for our current 10th level (very combat orientated) campaign. I have decided for a fighter4/rogue1/guild thief5 so far. probably dual wielding a longsword and dagger (artemis entreri stylee). my alignment will be chaotic neutral. basically meaning i will just make decisions spur of the moment without thought and probably change my mind when it suits me too. he steals from people with money and powerful people (nobles mainly) and despises people in such places of power without exception. He pities poor people and sometimes actively protects them (if it suits him or if it is against a powerful noble) mainly because he grew up very poor being oppressed by people higher up in the city heirarchy.

my question is how to work it so my thief who is a member of a thieves guild is joining a group of good-neutral adventurers.....maybe he is on the run from the guild after a mishap where he killed a fellow thief.....maybe he is on the run from the city altogether after he killed a powerful noble and the guild wont protect him....or maybe he was framed by a fellow thief who is a rival or superior???

what do you all think of my ideas...and do you have any of your own to help me??

thanks for your help in advance

Simple answer: your guild members want some insider's info on the good-neutral group. You do that by teaming up with them and sending reports every now and then to your guild master.

Or: you need to assume a fake identity or forge a fake reputation to get to someone. Travelling with a bunch of do-gooders can do that.

Or: you think it is time to make amends for your wrong deeds. You think that joining a group of good adventurers will help you steer clear of the evil path. They can provide assistance in times of need, and you think they should somewhat preach by example (you rely on them to tell right from wrong).

Or, the best of the best: you pretend to wish to make amend by joining this group (emphasis the "I really want to change but Dang! is it hard" line), but in truth you're really trying to make up a front of decency and thrustworthyness so that you can take a shot at a very suspicious target.

Enough for now, I guess.
