| Guido de Marco01-02-04, 07:41 AM | Hi, I'm now playing an Elven Bladesinger (chaotic good) in a Forgotten Realms campaign, and I'm kinda lost when choosing how to play it. I don't know exactly which goals I want to pursue, and i don't know how to react, for example, to some of the party's paladin actions and behavior. Which topics could be taken as ideals, or at least as objectives? Besides, should there be any personality traits based on the character concept? How should I conceive the relation between magic, music, and combat? Is religion intimately related to Bladesinging discipline? Somewhere I've read that Bladesingers worship Corellon, so that's my characters patron deity. Are INT, WIS and CHA affecting the behavior of the character? If so, INT=14, Wis=10, CHA=12. Thanks for the (future) advice. |

Sounds like the character is easy enough to get along with (Cha 12 is at least a +1 bonus) and has some presence, he's obviously above average intelligence, but it's intriguing that he doesn't have a wisdom bonus. You might play him as someone who has a good heart, and wants to do good, but doesn't always choose the right way/time to do it. Maybe he's friendly with the Paladin, (cha) and when their opinions differ can formulate an inteligent argument, (int) but does it at the most INCONVENIENT times (wis), Perhaps he knows that he's not terribly wise, and therefore he can analyze situations very well (again, intelligence) but is afraid to make decisions at times because he fears his own judgement, (wis) regardless of his analytical abilities. In terms of ideals to follow, it seems as though the bladesingers are supposed to advance the cause of "Elvendom" wherever they go. For non elves, maybe that means promoting the welfare of others. Perhaps it's encouraging civil disobedience in others against a "justifiable" threat. Maybe that's his way of giving a little of the elven spirit to non-elves. I could certainly see that as a bone of contention between a chaotic good and a lawful good character. Maybe he has a preemptive strike idea...perhaps his idea of the best way to protect his friends and family from orcs is to make sure there are as few orcs as possible on Faeurn. Again, that could be another example of the conflict between higher intelligence than wisdom. Such a position seems logical, and makes sense from a theoretical viewpoint, but really isn't all that practical, and would be very difficult to make effective. sorry to go on so long, just some ideas. cheers |
