| hicamajig11-15-05, 12:25 AM | I was wondering if there are any rules for blind characters, if not then what would they need and what benifits would they get if any? |
| shadowsofwhite11-15-05, 12:32 AM | Umm, it's rather hard to play blind characters, interesting, but hard. When playing a blind character, you don't know where you are and in combat, everything has total concealment. I gotta go, so I haven't anything more to say. Sorry. |
| hicamajig11-15-05, 12:39 AM | Also a long time ago my friend said something about 3 years of training plus a certain feat allows you to "see with your senses" allowing you to see in all lighting 50 ft with your senses instead of your eyes. |
| shadowsofwhite11-15-05, 03:52 AM | That ruling seems a little overpowered, giving its proponents blindsight. I would substitute such for blindsense 50ft instead, for balance purposes. |
| Arwarman11-15-05, 10:13 AM | Theres always the PRC for Blind Fighter, Its a monk based PRC, not good if your planning on being blind from level 1 |
| hicamajig11-15-05, 11:02 AM | What book is that in? |
| Radijs11-16-05, 07:39 AM | The quintessential monk. From Mongoose publishing. Its a nice PRC. |
| erbmjw11-16-05, 07:46 AM | Isn't their a torc of blindsight? I think the user requirement was one{or more} eyes blinded. |
| Nelyo11-16-05, 10:43 AM | I believe there's a feat in the Complete Adventurer that allows you to pinpoint the locations of nearby unseen enemies with a Listen check. Also, if you have Heroes of Battle or DMGII, check out the Invisibility Sweep teamwork benefit. If one member of the team pinpoints an enemy, all members of the team also know the square the enemy is in. Granted, none of this gets rid of the 50% miss chance for concealment, but Blind Fight can help with that, and if you're a spell caster, you can use effects which don't require an attack roll. Heck, if you're a spellcaster, you could combine the feat, the teamwork benefit, and spells which obscure visibility (like obscuring mist) to put everyone on your level while giving your party the benefits of your trained senses. |
| Uberwoot11-16-05, 01:48 PM | Nelyo's right, in Complete Adventurer there's a feat called Hear the Unseen that allows you to make a move action to pinpoint the locations of all "foes" (which I would liberally interpret as all creatures, not just foes) within 30 feet with a DC 25 (or move silently + 15) listen check. It only requires 5 ranks of listen and Blind-Fight, so any third level character could pick it up pretty easily if they focus on correcting their blindness. Also, the third edition Epic Level Handbook has a rule that allows characters to pinpoint invisible creatures with a listen check against a DC of the opponent's move silently check + 20. It might apply to your first- or second-level character (before he gets Hear the Unseen) against foes who wear heavy armor, or are just downright noisy (orcs, anyone?). It's an interesting concept- one that doesn't require a high-level character or a magic item. |
| hicamajig11-16-05, 09:17 PM | What exactly does a torc of blindsight do and is there a link to the quintessential monk. |
| shadowsofwhite11-17-05, 03:29 PM | There is a magical item in the articles section of wizards.com under articles, then related articles, then far reaches of the world (or something like that) then under magic items of the underdark. I don't really want to go there and post a link right now (I'm weird). The item is the Faceless Mask. It covers your face and ears. You can't hear, smell or see, but you gain blindsight and lose the need to breathe or eat. (pricy, but useful and really cool) |
| Shirosai11-17-05, 04:51 PM | Here's the link (http://www.wizards.com/default.asp?x=dnd/fw/20021228a). |
| shadowsofwhite11-18-05, 03:53 AM | thanks for making up for my oddness. |
