| Chrae7712-05-06, 03:32 PM | Im thinking about using some ideas from this book for my PC. But i was curious if anyone else has used this at all with PCs? Sorry DMs...:evillaugh not for you, just PCs. Thanks  |
| Cherubaddon12-05-06, 03:38 PM | Hell yeah, I did. And I had sooo much fun :evillaugh; what exactly do you want to know? Corrupt spells? Dark Speech? Pain and Souls as power? The BoVD is full of useful material. |
| Kitaki12-05-06, 05:09 PM | The rules on Sadism and Masochism are actually nice, add them to a Barbarian and he REALLY goes berserk. If your character has both on them they get +1 to attacks, damage, skills and saves for the next round when you take and/or deal damage equal to your level. They do stack, so if you hit something for damage equal/greater than your level, then get hit for equal/greater than your level you get +2 to all attacks, damage, skills and saves until the end of your next round. Granted those best apply to a Chaotic Evil character. |
| Cherubaddon12-05-06, 09:35 PM | Those rules are powerful indeed, however, I don't like them for RP reasons. |
| Werrwaaa12-05-06, 10:28 PM | Well, if youre gonna use the BoVD, and use it like its adult label suggests, youll need to be able to handle stuff like sadomasochism. One of my favorites was a vampire/succubus lesbian couple with lots of sexual violence. Another one was a human fighter with a bunch of willing deformities, like a body mod freak. I love the BoVD, and you can do some real hardcore stuff with it. |
| Chrae7712-05-06, 10:55 PM | Honestly im not to sure what from it id use. But dark speech, corrupt spells, drugs, and torture all came to mind. |
| philnicau12-05-06, 11:57 PM | I used the Evil Halflings from it, my players weren't expecting themat all, especially when the cleric grew fangs and bit the paladin. |
| Werrwaaa12-06-06, 12:23 AM | Nice. Imagine the Howling Horde buffed by the Goblin Pits of Io-Rach. |
| Chrae7712-07-06, 03:05 PM | Oh yeah. I forgot to point out that my PC is not evil nor in an evil campaign... |
| Werrwaaa12-07-06, 03:15 PM | Then the number of things you can use from the BoVD is extremely small to almost non-existent. |
| Cherubaddon12-07-06, 06:25 PM | Well, if youre gonna use the BoVD, and use it like its adult label suggests, youll need to be able to handle stuff like sadomasochism. I love the BoVD, and you can do some real hardcore stuff with it. Wrong. I don't have to use everything. I love this book, too, but some things are just off-limits for our group (including cannibalism, torture, and any kind of sexually aberrant behavious) that we just don't use, by silent consensus, so to speak. (Our DMs sometimes use torture, but we never do as PCs). We do use Vile Feats, Dark Speech, Sacrifice, Corrupt Spells, and the whole "sell your soul to the devil" thing. Some people might be fine with using the other stuff, and if you are, your enjoyment of the book is certainly enhanced; we, however, are not, and still use that book like none other. |
| Werrwaaa12-08-06, 12:12 AM | But then I would argue that you aren't using it to it's mature label. Sure, you have some evily stuff, but nothing that's particularly more vile than raising a few zombies. But honestly, you'll sacrifice people but you wont torture them? That make litte to no sense. :) BUT regardless, everyone has limits, and it depends on the players, some people i wouldnt even go as far as you if I didn't think they could handle it. Others? Completely dispassionate and could deal with anything. Good thoughts though guys! Another note to my last post. In response to his character not being evil, there really isn't much anything he can use from the book, because it would change his alignment. So i stand by it. :) Although, don't forget there are some hot spells that aren't [Evil]. Dancing Chains murders things. Lots. |
| Cherubaddon12-08-06, 06:25 PM | But honestly, you'll sacrifice people but you wont torture them? That make litte to no sense. I know ;) , I am weird at times. Or maybe it is because the screams just give me a headache. Anyway, I agree with what you said about Dancing Chains (also like the picture, heh). But even if your players aren't evil, the DM always is, so it still makes sense to get this book. |
| General_Ridley12-08-06, 06:52 PM | if you aren't evil, then this book is only useful for the DM to use for monsters against you. sorry. |
| Werrwaaa12-10-06, 07:12 PM | Dancing Chains False Sending Mirror Sending Nether Trail No Light Phantasmal Thief Preserve Organ Resonating Resistance Snare Astral Traveler Soul's Treasure Lost Suspend Disease Unnerving Gaze Wall of Chains Wall of Deadly Chains Wall of Ooze Those are the Sorc/Wiz spells without the [Evil] descriptor. It can be used without being evil. Not as well as evil characters, mind you, but it can be used. What kind of character are you playing anyway? |
| Cherubaddon12-10-06, 11:43 PM | Soul's Treasure's Lost is not Evil? I don't have my book right now, but that doesn't make sense. Are you sure? |
| Werrwaaa12-11-06, 12:09 AM | Don't have mine atm either, but I'm pretty certain. I'll check tomorrow. |
| FeceMan12-11-06, 01:01 AM | But honestly, you'll sacrifice people but you wont torture them? That make litte to no sense. :) I think it makes a lot of sense. What's easier--shooting a person in the head or flaying him alive and then shooting him in the head? |
| Kitaki12-11-06, 08:05 AM | I think it makes a lot of sense. What's easier--shooting a person in the head or flaying him alive and then shooting him in the head? That would depend on the character you are playing, and how much time you have. If you have the time and are willing to, the flaying is so much more fun. |
| Werrwaaa12-11-06, 10:17 AM | But he's not just shooting him in the head. He is sacrificing him. Sacrifice is very ritualized and is generally a long, drawn-out process. It's pretty much torture, except they can't get out of it by telling you what you want to know, as is generally the case with torture (at least if you Lawful Evil). Sacrifice is just as evil as torture; so no, it doesn't make sense. But regardless, it's his play style and he has already commented on it. :) |
| Werrwaaa12-13-06, 01:57 AM | Soul's Treasure Lost, is, in fact, not [Evil]. |
| Chrae7712-14-06, 02:27 AM | What kind of character are you playing anyway? Well i was playing a neutral diviner. I figured id use torture if somehow they managed to defeat my divination dcs. Maybe lower their saves by getting them addicted to certain drugs... stuff like that. But last i talked to my DM, we're doing a completely different campaign now. So i've got a whole new character built. This campaign is actually much more on the evil side than the other but unfortunately the BoVD wont really work for where im going this charcter. But thanks guys! ya'll have been real helpful. :D |
