| Demonwolf06-27-06, 01:27 AM | A concept that occured to me today was to use the 7 deadly sins and 7 cardinal virtues to come up with character concepts. I can think of five possible ways to do this. I have a list of the sins and virtues here for the sake of convenience. The methods that I thought of are listed below, although if you can come up with your own way of doing this, feel free. My next post will be an attempt at creating a character with one of the methods. 1. Anger 2. Pride 3. Envy 4. Lust 5. Sloth 6. Greed 7. Gluttony 1. Wisdom 2. Temperance 3. Fortitude 4. Justice 5. Faith 6. Hope 7. Love Possible Methods: 1. This first option seems like the easiest. Roll 1d7 (1d8, reroll 8) twice, once for a sin, once for a virtue. If this inspires you, describe the concept. If it doesn't, roll 1d6 twice- once for another sin and another virtue. Roll in any combination you want- for example, if you want a paladin, roll twice for virtues. If you want a villain, roll twice for sins. If you want an antihero or sympathetic villain, roll twice for virtues and once for sins, or vice versa. 2. The next option is to just choose either virtue or sin, and roll 1d7, basing a character on the result. If inspiration doesn't strike, reroll. 3. Next is more complicated. Rank the deadly sins and heavenly virtues from 1 to 14, 1 being the most powerful motive and 14 being the least. You can do this yourself, or you can roll 1d14 repeatedly (roll d20, ignore higher than 14). Scale down to 1d12, then 1d10, 1d8, 1d6 etc. as necessary. 4. Roll 1d10 14 times, once for each virtue and sin. 5 being normal inclination, 1 being aversion, 10 being a powerful inclination. If you want, divide the rolls as you see fit. 5. Divide 70 points between the virtues and sins, with a minimum of 10 in either category. Use the scale specified in 4. |
