I have always had a feeling of dispassion towards people when I think of neutrality. Could a character be true neutral and be really caring? I can see it where they are caring and "good" but only towards close friends. The rest of the time they just go with the flow of life and don't actively promote goodness or evil. Can anyone out there give me a good example of how to be neutral and be someone that is caring and nice? |

Perhaps the character is bitter and rude to most other people, so it takes a lot to get to the caring side of the character. But that doesnt sound like its what your after...hmm its tricky....perhaps the character could be caring to everyone but have other traits that keep him/her from the good alignment. Perhaps (s)he is quick to kill and merciless? |

She's still evil though becuase I know that if it came down to it, she'd put herself first. So it's very possible to be TN and be a friendly, outgoing, nice person who does good things for the people he/she is close to. Now everyone who is outside that circle of friends and family can go slide down a pole in the fifth layer of the hells and, in fact, he may have no qualms sending them there should they interfere with your way of life. For example, there's a fair amount of TN people in armies; they're not there to protect the king and all the innocents he rules over or because they love killing and the nation's ememy is a good excuse. They fight for their family and loved ones back home. I tend to think of it this way: evil looks out ultimately for only themself, good looks out for everyone, neutral looks after himself and his own. |

First, let's push the envelope the other way, some people can do wonderfully nice and caring things for perfectly selfish reasons, likewise people can attribute evil intents to those who are doing nice, caring things. For example, some people get offended when a gentleman opens the door for a lady because they think the gentleman is merely making a statement of his own superiority. His motivations may be good or evil, and some will assume the former while others the latter. So if the slightly evil person can be nice and polite, so can the neutural person. He might have people he cares somewhat for to some extent. He can be friendly or not ... believe it or not some people actually like to be happy and sociable. He might be polite or he might not for the same reason. But he will probably need at least something in return if you want him to donate one his kidneys even to someone he might care for. That is a good way to look at neutural, as being somewhat and sortof. Some aspects you might like and consider good, and others are selfish and evil. That's true of the bulk of humanity. |
