Hello i'm new to the boards but i figured this was the spot to go with this type of question. Anyway here goes I rolled some great stats for my next character and am looking to play a jack of all trades type character without bardic abilites such as music and inspire. Thats beside the point though as I have already worked out a class with my DM where I Gain bardic spell progression but casting is based on Int and average BAB and bard saves. Special abilites include some bonus feats and sneak attack progression. Also gain 6 skill points per level. My real question is where should i go with a background on a character who can do a little bit of everything including but not limited to casting, archery, TWF with swords and sneaking.

Half Elf Male Age 22

Str-15
Dex-16
Con-12
Int-17
Wis-11
Cha-14

Any help you guys could offer would be greatly appriciated thanx in advance.

This may not help, but except for having the bard spell list, you sound like a city ranger (variant class).

So without alignment or at least a starting point for how you want to play him, I can't think of anything else right now.

Sorry about that going to be Neutral good and like I said want to be able to do a bit of everything. You know the guy whose second best at everything and can fill in when needed without being a namby pamby bard who sings and dances his way around.

Give us at least something to work with... What do you want his personality to be like, for example?

If he can do a little bit of everything, then maybe he lived on his own and needed to be able to all sorts of stuff. Try that angle.

Want him to be kind of strong silent type but when he needs to he can turn on the charm and was thinking he had a little wizardly training when he was young but had to move for some reason and had to adapt to be a bit of a fighter and sneak. You know the guy who every one envys the good student good athlete who doesn't think he's lucky to be good at every thing he just feels it comes naturaly.

I guess your game already was played, but from your description the guy is a bard. The last time I played a bard, he wasn't some singing type. He was a military leader. I took Perform(Oratory) for giving speaches to the troops and to give encouraging words to the troops during battle. The DM allowed it because it makes sense.

Well, your guy sounds like he was from a poor family, but always knew he was destined for something greater. He left home at an early age to try and make some money. He came across a group of street thugs and joined their group. He did that for awhile, but still felt he was just scraping by and some of the other guys would take things too far.

He left them and travelled to the better section of town. A wizard captured him trying to steal from his purse and indentured him as a servant in his house. He came to like the wizard and understood that he was saved from prison by the wizard's actions. HE picked up some magical skills but again he eventually got bored. The wizard sensed this and gave him some money and told him to try and stay out of trouble.

That's all I can really think of right now... I hope it helps even if it is late.

Thanks jnrhayz this helps a lot and i like the perform(oratory) idea but I just really don't like the bards special abilites. My Dm let me slide on my background a little so maybe ill still be able to incorperate this thanks a bunch. :D
