I'm starting a new character. here is the background. tell me what you think.

Casca Masiff was but a child when his parents and wealthy lifestyle were ripped from his life. his family's caravan was on their way to a large city to trade when the were attacked by a large raiding party. but not just any raiding party, it was the raiding party of Beleak Shieldheart, an evil raider like you have never imagined. all were dead within minutes except Casca who was left with a great scar across his face and a tortured soul to match. he now advenures for revenge.

he is a first level Rogue.

Well, capitals would be a nice start. :P

Other than that, it's a good background, there's just not much to it. It's definately a good start to build on, so keep at it!

Good Luck!

capital?! BAH!!
one thing you have to know is the reason I'm making this character because I just prince of persia: the 2 thrones. all the acrobatics and fighting have got me obbsessed! then I was inspired by Harrow Blade and this Veldrinthalas character he is making. So Casca is going to be a Rogue/Fighter/Shadodancer. I got the name from a book about a man named casca who supposedly killed Jesus and became immortal until Jesus comes back.
Currently I'm trying to figure out what feats to give him.

If everyone on the caravan was killed except for the kid, how did he survive? Skirmishes attract wild animals, monsters and the undead like nothing else. What led him to becoming a rogue? Because he was orphaned? Did he end up in a city, or a village, or where, after the caravan massacre? What's his personality like? Did the scar across his face affect his interactions with other people: is he more likely to take ranks in intimidate than diplomacy because of it? What's his alignment? Is he more a pickpocket/thief, or just a skilled fighter rogue? Is he becoming the type of person that he wants revenge on? Will he do anything to get his vengeance; what if innocents get in his way, or town guards try to arrest him?

Mechanics-wise, look into the swashbuckler class and thief acrobat prc as well for acrobatic-themed classes (complete adventurer). Three levels of swashbuckler will give you weapon finesse and insightful strike, as well as good skill points (which fighters don't have); five levels will get you shield of blades if you use the PHB2 variant class feature. I love the idea of an acrobatic TWF; that's what my last character was and after he had acrobatic charge he could charge recklessly over difficult terrain, tumble over tables, or swing down on a rope. It was very fun, and the combo of sneak attack and inisghtful strike damage made him good in melee.

this is his attitude so far... dark, talks to people he has killed, has no heart. for instance, a orc attacked him and the sword didn't get past his armor this causes him to be push out of the way of an oncoming arrow. "thank you" he says "in repament you shall swiftly." another orc runs up and attacks him, misses. he spins around and stabs the orc just behind the chin till the entire blade is in the orcs head, twists blade. "this" he says to dead orc "is the fate you saved yourself from." twists the blade twice more and snaps th orc's neck. :D
he got the scar from the orcs and they left him there to die some townsfolk found him and took him to the town and healed him.
also his other feat is toughness.
and weapon finess is pointless because he has an 18 in Dex and Str.

okay the campaign has called for a bit of background modifacation (yes I spell it wrong). no scar. he was close to a city so he entered. reduced to mugging for cash. by the age of twelve, his swords were his only friends. one morning he woke up to find himself in an enviorment very different to the one he went to sleep in. he was in a lavishly furnished room with a dark figre sitting at a table with lot's of food on it. "come child," the figure beckoned "have something to eat, you look famished." Casca suspisusly began to eat. after he was certian it wasn't poisned, he ate like he hadn't eaten in years. after the meal, he was invited to join the local theives guild. he accepted. after two years of training he was sent to a small town to make what money he could. also they payed for some muscle (the party barbarian, half orc.)

Find a copy of Ruroni Kenshin: Trust and Betrayal (or Samuri X: Trust and Betrayal, same thing different title). The basic story is that an orphan is taken in by a group of refugees durring the Warring States period (I belive, pre meji period anyway) of Japan. The orphan is attacked by bandits and most everyone is killed. The child (4-5 years old) tries to defend the women who have taken him in but they prevent him, sheilding him from the bandits with their own bodies, and are promptly killed. This recently re-orphaned child is surrounded by the dead bodies of the people he was beginning to form a family with and is about to die when a great swordsman appears and slaughters the bandits with slices to to fast to see and blood spray. He takes the child and at the childs insistance trains him. The rest of the anime is the child, who becomes known as Ruroni Kenshin, tries to find his place in the world and ends up killing or causing the death of alot of people. It is the prequal to the series "Ruroni Kenshin", but is severly divorced from it in style, tone, and pacing.

What does this mean for you?
Have him the survivor of a bandit attack. The only reason he survived was because the members of the caravan hid him, possibly with their own bodies. Give him a wound or scar on his ribs or shoulder where a blade peirced someone dear to him and then wounded him. After the bandits leave the caravan is found by travelers and the child is brought to a nearby city. Put in an orphanage where he is abused or ignored in turn turns to the streets, getting involved with the various gangs that inhabit the city.

Just a thought. And a shampless plug vor a very good miniseries.
