| Jedi_Master_Trobon10-19-07, 05:58 PM | Hey all I am making a Paladin for an upcoming campaign. His backstory is (more or less) he was trained martial skills from a Human warrior and spiritual skills from a fey. There's a bit of backstory there, but it's not needed for what I'm wondering. His basic concept is he's a Paladin who instead of working for a divine agent is a champion of the fey. What I need is I am looking for any PrCs, Multiclass opportunities, templates, or anything else I can pick up in this flavor. I basically want to diverseify him from the stock breed Paladin by sacrificing some Pally levels for some other more fey like abilities while keeping the whole "champion" outlook. |
| Terjon of the Blue Rose10-19-07, 11:51 PM | Well, start with making him a paladin of freedom from Unearthed Arcana. As for race there is always half-fey or feyblooded (at least that's what I think their called, basically a fey version of aasimar or tiefling). After that a few random levels in sorcerer, or even spellthief will be a good place to move on too if you can get any neccessary multiclass restrictions removed. I don't know if you can do it with divine casting but there are a number of fey heritage feats in either complete mage or arcana. They might be worth looking into. Outside the mechanics though... Fey are capriscous creatures. They don't fit nicely into the role of champion in large part because it is a dedicated role. Perhaps instead you are someone tasked with watching over these creatures and defending them from any threat that their natural abilities won't allow them to easily overcome. You may be attached to a druidic circle or even simply have been raised in an area where benign fey were fairly common and the locals learned to love them for their love of life. |

| Dead_Weasel10-21-07, 12:04 AM | Aren't those called beguilers?Heh, yes, but then the "champion" feel is entirely gone. A duskblade's abilities are tailored more towards direct combat; a beguiler is far better at support and manipulation. As long as the modified duskblade gets enchantment and illusion spells that work with its class abilities, it might be workable. |
| Terjon of the Blue Rose10-21-07, 12:12 AM | not likely enchantement has touch of idiocy i think and illision just about nothing. Remember that duskblade relies on touch spells. Beguiler could fit if he were empowered by some fey lord and practicing the flighty combat style of fey. |
| Dead_Weasel10-22-07, 01:05 AM | Hmm, true. Improved Feint lets a Beguiler feint as a free action, so I suppose that is a decent route to take - but you would have to do some improvisation to make it worthwhile. Wild Soul or Swiftblade are options for later advancement, depending on whether you want to emphasize the "fey" or the "champion". |
| pastadiablo10-24-07, 11:16 PM | Perhaps to give a "champion" feel, the character could take ranks in Warlock whose ancestors made a pact with a powerful fey: immense power, traded for the responsibility to use that power in the protection of fey. As long as his family maintains a close relationship with fey and protect them from harm, they have vast wells of power. That way you can explain the fact that you start of with Paladin of Freedom: your character had yet to defend any fey in his life, he was just trained by them, and so after an encounter in which you protect a fey you gain the powers from the pact made long ago (multi-classing into warlock). |
