| Metabubbles05-22-06, 09:41 AM | Gone to the 'optimized' boards and came up with a concept character. Dwarf with Mineral Warrior Template (+2 str, +4 con, -2 int, wis, chr). So I come up with a Lawful Good dwarf fighter with 12 wisdom, 6 intelligence, & 4 charisma! (level 1) Minimum skill points, 4 and 1 point per level. Now do I go with a standard DUMB Dwarf as charismatic as a donkey character? Or how else would I spin his stats in a role-playing situation? I like the quiet type also. The DM is allowing; "I'm not sure the details but I was thinking to minimize abuse of this gift to have players select a skill at 1st level that will be their profession. Choose from: Craft (any) Perform (any) Profession (any) Handle Animal Sleight of Hand This list may need to be adjusted but looking throught the PHB this morning those are what stood out as possible professions. After a profession has been choosen from the above list it will be maxed out at class level one (four points) and each class level there after the choosen profession will receive one additional rank (thus it will always be maxed out). You do not gain this bonus on level adjustment levels." I am thinking pro-typical; dwarf cook, eventually owning his own tavern. Any other ideas you feel are better? Let me know what you guys think! |

He would have problems starting a tavern, as he is to stupid to cook good, and not charismatic enough to manage stuff... He can't spell... Nor write.. not according to his int... He can only speak basic phrases... Use words with max. 3 syllables... His life is mostly about food and fighting... and he can't really seem to aquire friends.... |

| Rudi_Schteppen05-22-06, 09:08 PM | With his Charisma that low, I might recommend giving him a scarred, grizzled appearance. Kinda like a short bear. And as for the new stats, he seems like an ex-soldier, or even ex-blacksmith, down on his luck or something. He is definitely a gruff, rough character. Give him a +3 warhammer. Because dwarves don't use axes underground. Because let's face it, it goes well with his personality: Gruff and rough, hard as a frozen diamond in midwinter. Kickarse! |
| shift24405-23-06, 02:04 AM | Or perhaps he can be extremely talkative. He just doesn't really know when to hold his mouth close. True at heart, he is, thinks and says what he means, regardless if what he says hurts people, and it more often than not does. He gets attention, much more than the typical low CHA expects, but he rattles on without really caring if people are interested, which turns the attention away just as quick. He doesn't seem to be interested in anything but what he has to say either. He listens, but just long enough to pull off a pun or joke and half the time at inoppurtune moments.. not to mention that almost all his jokes fall flat, at least those when he himself does not. He's a good sport too, and doesn't mind it one bit when people recipocrate and laughs with and/or at him. And he's CLEAN! In fact very very much so to the point where it gets really irritating hearing him complain about goblin blood on his hammer, orc blood on his armor, dirt on his boots, crumbs from breakfast on his beard.... In fact, the only time the party actualy likes him is probably when he pulls his weight in combat, and when party arcane caster has a silence spell active on him. "He-ay! Listen ta me will ye? It's just like that time when that worm got dirt on me WHITE cloak... that me just jest washed. It's not like.. hey, is that supper on ye pants?! Oh me ga- whadye mean ye wanna sneak? Ain't talkin' that loud.. oww... okay me gets the message!" and then continues to whisper his favourite friend the cleric about his white cloak. Equally low CHA, but not typically the dumb, gruff and untalkative, short-tempered dwarf. |
| MasterOfPsychic05-23-06, 07:17 AM | And let's not forget the wis of 6, which means that he is a little unperceptive, so he tends to tumble and fall a lot, or mistake people for someone else... And he is weak-willed... Goes about trying to get rid of his alcohol and expensive food-addiction, but fails ALL the time... |

The average human/dwarf NPC has an intelligence of 10, so he is average on this. Wisdom is what you perceive from your surrounding, Charisma is what you perceive from yourself. You could act as if you were seeing everything with a layer of dust on it. Basically, you know a tomato is a fruit, but you can't understand why it can't go into a fruit salad. |
