| EvilVegan11-09-06, 07:59 PM | Greetings! I have a character idea that I'm wanting to flesh out a bit. I've got several ideas already, but here's the rundown: I'm going to be 6 separate personalities locked in one body. Every time I rest a new personality has a chance to arise. Every morning I wake up as a different person, with only partial memories of how I got there. I recognize some people (other players and some NPCs) regardless of which personality is dominant (reason given later). Of the 6 personalities 1 has full awareness of all 6 personalities and the condition he is in, his name is Aral and I believe I will say he is a half-elf wizard working on a way to stabalize his condition (with him as the primary dominant), he stays awake for days at a time to prevent the other personalities from rising and works on his condition; sometimes leaving cryptic notes for his other selves. The "character" mechanically will be a changeling chameleon (rogue 2/barb/cleric/wizard lead in) and each morning he subconsciously shifts form to the new race and wakes up fully believing he/she's the only person in that body (except for Aral). The personalities are: Aral, lawful neutral half-elven male wizard. Bardoc, chaotic neutral male Half-orc barbarian. Sir Olir Welt, lawful good male dwarf paladin. Riela, neutral female elven archer. Eldelana, neutral good female human cleric, healer-type. Nis, chaotic evil female changeling rogue. Despite being chaotic evil she won't typically screw over people with whom Aral and the others are friendly. The symbolism of these just occured to me as I was typing, Aral is the Ego, Bardoc and Nis represent the Id, Sir olir and Eldelana represent the Super Ego, and Riela is a repressed feminine aspect with *****-envy (shooting phalluses into everyone is a dead giveaway :P). Now, the reasons for this strange situation are the part I'm having trouble with. Here's some ideas I've been thinking through: Magical experimentation, Aral was the lead research assistant in a body-swapping experiment or working on enhancements that work off past-life experience. Changeling cursed by faeries/demons/aliens/dragon/jesus to lose his control over changing, probably the result of some offense caused by mischievious, shapeshifter galavanting. Tribe of One standard (Excellent darksun series of books): someone wandered too near a village/town that was struck by magical calamity that killed everyone in the area except the player who absorbed souls of the victims. This would also have a few extra tag-along personalities of children and old people who occasionally surface. Also progression into the future will probably include the personalities becoming more aware of the situation eventually I think leading up to a group-think that lets them switch on the fly depending on the situation (within the bounds of the chameleon class of course, or i'll make a further PrC to work off of that). |

| JulesCARV11-10-06, 05:49 PM | What if Aral was originally a half-elf wizard who decided, as a precaution, to acquire a bunch of contingent reincarnations (as with Contingent Spells from Complete Arcane) from some corrupt Warden of the Wood or something. However, the spells didn't quite work -- Aral was killed, but the new body that arose (say, Riela) didn't have his memories. Now, after living a series of lives, each waking up as adults with mysterious origins and no memories of childhood, the last of the contingent reincarnations have been used up -- but this time, the body that arose retains fragments of the memories of all. |
