Now, the one requirement of our character is that they have recently completed some sort of heroic deed which they are to be honored for. While I'm still playing a rogue-type, I'm trying to come up with a decent character concept which doesn't seem too cliched. I guess the Rogue element doesn't help but... Has anyone played a Changeling before and is there anything you'd recomend? Two ideas I have are Master of Disguise or a Special Forces type who stages events to train other soldiers and the like. |

| ericSHINRA05-10-07, 10:58 AM | Any help would be appreciated. I'm trying to figure out why a changeling would work for anyone other them itself and how to handle the backstory for my changeling overall. I've a few ideas but they're so out there I'm sure they'd belong on the mature boards seeing as one concept I have is a changeling Hedonist. One major problem would be whether or not my changeling would have a set persona he prefers above even its natural form. I could play a female changeling in this group if I wished and he would assume a female form at times but I'm not sure how to rationalize his most common form. |

Whether or not you have a "default" form is dependant on a few things; 1) How are changelings viewed in your DM's game? Are they known and accepted, known but reviled, or relatively unknown. 2) Are you trusted? As a species, as a rogue, etc. 3) How is your character's self image? Does he view him/her/its self as a monster, or do you view yourself as gifted for your powers? 4) Do you prefer to be annonymous enough that if some of your dealings go wrong, would it be of benefit to dump a premade persona, and let them take the fall, or to just fess up. 4a) On that note, how up and up are your dealings, that can play a factor. Just a few thoughts for you. I almost always stereotype myself when playing changelings by being a sneaky 80-faced backstabbing double, triple and duedeco dealing cheat. If you havent' already, pick up races of Eberron. For an Eberron book, it is total crap, as a general Races of book, it does a good job, and delves into the personality and psyche of changelings. |

Hmm... I'll have to ask but from what I know now... 1. We've decided not to make the Changeling a race but rather a mutation of sorts. 2. I'm thinking of keeping his abilities a secret and simply pass himself off as another species. 3. He certainly enjoys his powers but is unsure of how other people would view him if they knew the truth. 4. He would think of himself before others when engaged in shady dealings but does not consider himself evil. I think Thrincold hit the nail right in the head. I'll have to find out more about the campaign world. |
