| DoomSquirrel71810-05-06, 11:55 AM | Creative Difficulties: I'm can't seem to think of a basic story for the character I'm building. He's a Rogue/Monk multiclass, and all I've decided so far is that I want his story to change his alignment/personality. 1.begin as a selfish, but not greedy or sadistic, foul tempered type 2.do something really selfish and witness some kind of horrible suffering or suffer some kind of misfortune(this is where I have my problem, I can't think of what he'd do or what the consequences would be) 3.Join a monastary to learn the ways of balance and self disipline to atone. 4.profit:rimshot: Please offer insight to what I have so far, or suggest a different story that doesn't resemble spider man so much. Also, what other kinds of things can make someone turn from neutral to lawful neutral? -thanks in advance Edit: included story: Major City was involved in a vicious battle between two factions, they have been fighting for many years. Gakri was hired by one faction to retrieve a powerful magical artifact (not necessarily an "artifact") in order to finally end the war. The Faction promised that the other side would surrender once possession of the artifact was revealed. Gakri retrieved the artifact and was payed for his services, but instead of demanding unconditional surrender, The Faction used the artifact to mercilessly eradicate anyone associated with their enemy, innocent or not, without warning. Gakri resisted their efforts when he saw what horrors The Faction was commiting, but he was unable to make a difference. Before he was driven out and exiled from the city, His employer made a remark he could never forget: "You had to know this would happen, we couldn't just forgive our enemy. You knew, but your greed blinded you." When Gakri thought of it, he knew his employer was right, and wandered away from the city, wallowing in guilt until he happened across a monastery... |

| Fithero10-08-06, 09:54 PM | well... you could go the old "my actions caused someones death", though that might be a bit too close to spiderman for you. Perhaps he was involved in the selling of some slaves, and he later heard how they were treated (beaten, raped, sacraficed... whatever) and felt remorse for his involvment. Didnt help someone in danger because he was looking out for his own skin, they died. Really it depends on what sort of shadow you want hanging over your character, as it would tend to flavour the character somewhat, especially later in his career when it comes back to bite him/her. Hope this helps some. Peace |

And as a result, you later find out they did something drastic in return, which caused another thing to happen, so there's this chain of events. Example: you steal from a corrupt landlord. Turns out he wasn't as rich as he seemed because he had steep gambling debts. To pay the mob off, he demands his tenants to pay at the beginning of the month, instead of the end of the month. Several poor people get evicted, a cobbler loses the shop that had been in the family for generations, a town guardsman gets evicted, gets drunk and ends up killing someone in a bar fight. One of the poor commoners who gets evicted miscarries her child because she's living in the streets. Landlord can't raise enough money to pay off the mob and has to flee. The thieves guild takes over his property and evict more people. Etc. You'd learn of these events over a period of time and gradually realize how your act(s) of stealing really did hurt innocent people. Your guilt leads you to soul-searching and when you come across a monastery and see the peace and tranquility there you realize that you can start fresh. |
| DoomSquirrel71810-22-06, 03:18 PM | I think I came up with a story for this character: Included in post 1 Aside from the story, what kind of things, in general turn someone to lawful? For example true neutral can turn to neutral evil because of greed, wrath, envy, pride, etc. |
| camirblu10-23-06, 11:25 PM | It may help if you list a series of personality traits for the different alignment spheres: Good Neutral Evil Lawful Neutral Chaotic Then perhaps from there, orient a story around what might cause those traits. This is simply a different approach, but it might offer a fresh view. |

| leather_book_wizard11-19-06, 12:13 AM | Good: Help the situation of those around you. Neutral: Help bring balance and justice. Evil: Increase your own power. Lawful: In accordance with the law or a personal moral code. Neutral: In a logical and balanced way. Chaotic: At any and all costs. This was in someone's siggy as I guide to understanding alignments.Hope it helps. |
| DoomSquirrel71811-27-06, 07:42 PM | :bump: What are some general occasions where a character would change alignment from neutral to lawful neutral? |
| Lanky Ogre Baggy Pants11-28-06, 12:50 AM | Well personally I kind of see there being 2 different forms of TN. That of crusading for absolute balance and that of really don't care. Which one was he? There are also two kinds of change. One is accidental, possibly still unrealised and the other is deliberate. For example if you character was somehow a crusading for balance zealot that went about it in such a methodical way, you could eventually slip into LN. On the other hand, if you were born and raised on the street and never really had a better life, you might not really care about laws or morality, you just want to get on with your life and live. If you saw some consequence to breaking a law, or not acting with honor or in a pattern you may voluntarily decide to become "lawful." |
| DoomSquirrel71812-06-06, 10:13 PM | :bump: His current incarnation is the type that didn't care, he became selfish in order to survive in his hostile environment. |
