changling spy [Archive] - Wizards Community

05-28-06, 09:29 PM My next campaign is set in the forgotten realms and we're seeking the lanthorn(the uber-super-Leet-artifact that gives ultimate power and runs on gems. It's pretty sweet, but hard to find/get, seeing as the last campaign went to lvl18 before a party of 7 died trying to get it) and the party is going to be mostly intra-planar/universe characters.

So i plan on playing a changling spy-type character. What i need is help filling out that basic character. I need to find out what his common form will be(he doesn't let the party know what he is), what his background is(he was raised as a spy, but why? and what is his reason for being in realms?) Finally, whats his story to what his aquired identity is, that false backstory(he is going to be a beguiler/PRCes if that helps)

Any help is much appreciated, and have fun with this one guys

05-29-06, 11:52 PM Make his normal form something exotic. In a world with changelings, I would be nervous around someone who seems to fit most ubiquitous stereotypes and blends in well. I would never expect someone who was already somewhat odd to actually be a changeling. Hence go with something exotic (though by no means fear-inspiring). Also, pump up at least one knowledge, profession, craft, or perform check to its maximum, that way you have the skills and knowledge to go with who you claim to be. You might also say that your character takes on the role of stranger people so as not to be detected in addition to a love for challenge. I don't know much about Forgotten Realms, so I'll leave it to you to think of something exotic enough to be distinct, yet not so exotic as to be a weakness in terms of trust and such (sure you can change, but not while eating a meal with the party or such situations, assuming you wish to keep your identity secret as you say).

I've toyed with a "hollow" changeling for a while - one who doesn't really have an own personality but takes over those he impersonates or makes up, since he is unsure of himself and would rather hide behind the masks he makes up than show his own feelings or thoughts.
