I am making a Kender Warlock for an upcomming Dragonlance campaign my group is doing. My DM already okayed me making a warlock but he pointed out that I needed a good background story since they are rare/unusual/unheard-of.

As such:

Girouette "Giro" Manytrick
C/N (leaning towards C/G) Kender Warlock (4)
Str 10, Dex 20, Con 12, Int 14, Wis 10, Cha 18
Feats: Fey Heritage, Fey Skin
Skill Ranks: Concentration 7, Profession (cook) 5, Bluff 5, UMD 7, Slight of Hand 2

Invocation Selection:
Lesser:
Call of the Beasts (Speak with Animals and Wild Empathy with 24 hour duration)
Serpents Tounge (Scent ability and +5 on fort saves against poisons, 24 hour duration)
Spiderwalk (Spiderclimb and immunity to webs for 24 hours)

Backstory: Her father was one of the kender from kendermore. He was slightly unusual for a kender in that he was particularly focused. He was basically a botanist who went out into near by forests to gather plants (since he found them VERY interesting). While on his various trips, he eventually befriended a female Fey (of some sort, yet to be deturmined). Well, eventually, the dragon attack kendermore and all the kender that survived became afflicted kender. While the rest of his kind there left for Kenderhome, he stayed behind and headed out into what remained of the forest where his Fey friend was. He came out several weeks later but was different: He was no longer afflicted and he had strange powers. He journeyed for several years trying to get to Kenderhome (all the while learning his new powers). Eventually reached Hylo where he met his soon to be wife who was a part time guard (who wields the kender equivalent of a full blade). They eventually had Girouette.

Girouette is (for the most part) a normal kender. She doesn't realize her invocations are magic, she just thinks they are tricks (On par with stage magic, something anyone can do). She has been able to speak with animals since she was very young (Call of the Beast invocation) and doesn't understand why others cannot understand animals too. Since she doesn't realize what she does is magic (and insists its not) she will on occasion try and teach people her tricks (unsuccessful so far). She is curious as a kender and she enjoys experimenting with food.

Current Adventure Highlights:
* Befriended a Were-Rabbit (was not in fact a were-rabbit, the rabbit just said it was and she failed her sense motive check).
* Learned to cook from a gully dwarf (She now loves to cook waffles, expecially blueberry and saurkraut waffles).
* A wizard of high sorcery attempted to induct her into the order (and failed miserably).
* Attempted to visit a tower of high sorcery but got lost and went on to other things.
* Befriended an gnomish inventor and got him to make her a waffle iron (A masterwork one no less).

That is basically it. I left a few things intentionally vague though. Mostly because they could make GREAT plot hooks in the future so I left them vague for my DM to fill in later (since my character doesn't know either). Her father never said what happened to him exactly, so she doesn't know either. Although (as evident from her fey heritage feats) it probably has something to do with the fey.

I decided to go with the whole fey power origin rather then the traditional fiendish one since it is (IMO) far more intersting (Besides, Fey > Fiends). Also, I decided to continue that by her taking the fey heritage feats.

I tried to pick her invocations with how fun they would be for her (or amusing for me). Serpants tounge was mostly for when she is cooking (yay for bonus to saves vs poison). Spiderwalk was so that she could reach shiny things high up.

Any suggestions, comments, etc?

Sounds like a pretty cool character, and one that is going to be awsome to play if your into eratic and spontaneous behaviour :P

I once had a kender npc following me around.... got me into all amounts of trouble :P

Good luck with it.

Excuse me...may sound stupid...but...what exactly is a kender?

A kender is a dragonlance specific race and if memory serves, they are slightly taller and skinnier than haflings. Also, i seem to recall that they are fearless and all borderline kleptomaniacs.

Hope this helps.

Thats basically right. However, their main trait is that they are intensely curious. Also, anything they borrow (because they never "steal") they will always give back when asked (generally with a response of "How did that get there?", "I was just holding it for you, to keep it safe from thieves", or "Odd, I could have sworn i had one just like it."

On par with my Kender Telepath, good work!

Thanks :)

Although... a Kender Telepath would be quite frightening.... Then again, my Kender Warlock hasn't gotten the disembodied hand invocation yet :)

Oh god, that should be just shy of enough to make the DM cry.:D

Well, there is also going to be a gnomish inventor in the group so...... Yeah. Between the two of us, things should be quite chaotic :3

For the record, if the inventor makes any "Foogle" inventions I am staying at LEAST 100 yards away at all times. The last one he made exploded and imploded at the same time (causing massive damage around him, including to himself).

Wait a minute, how can some thing explode, that is, be forcibly torn apart and blown outward, while also imploding, that is, being rapidly compressed into a small spacein the center of mass, and all at the same time? That must have been painful. But yeah, between Giro and that inventor, your DM had best have plenty of tissues readily at hand.:D

Its gnomish, need I say more? The invention was (basically) three wands, a rod, and a crossbow designed to fire at the same time.

And that officially sounds painful. But I know how to stop it. To stop it, one needs BALLS. And BRICKS. You would need balls and bricks to stop that thing. It's the only way to be sure.
