I need help developing a code of conduct for a Chaotic Evil character. Instead of the boring, stereotypical depraved psychopath who backstabs the party at the drop of a hat, this character is much more about stealth, subtlety, blackmail, and framing others for his crimes. Increasing one's unseen influence and contacts is his modus operandi, including developing a cadre of loyal followers. Murder is reserved for situations so dire, or so strategic, that other means are likely ineffective or worse, would incriminate himself or his followers.

As for the party, it's not hard to like the Good members of your party when they protect you from harm and unproveable accusations of evildoing, even if they are weak, misguided fools. You don't harm such valuable assets.

I don't think a human could play that. You seem like a nice guy and I don't think you could handle that persinality. However, that dosn't mean your not a roleplayer and story teller.
The main thing you have to do to be Chaotic Evil is to not care about any limits. You should only fallow the propper rules unless it helps to your advanage and that the rules are sometimes "accidenatily" broken.

That makes me think about Bender the robot in Fururama. He always frame and steal his friends, yet he is cool enough to remain their friend. In an episode, he even becomes a tyran and turn his own friends in slaves, but when his plan fail, he saves them and they flee the planet.
Ok, this is more CN than CE. But if you cooperate with other players and have your character easily intimidated, that could work.

"I will never allow anyone to exercise any power over me"
"As long as no one stands in my way I will let them be"
"My goals are everything, obstruct them and you make an enemy for life"
"I will always take the easiest route out of any confrontation"
"I will not fear dying knowing that I did my best to live"

Im actually in the process of making a Chaotic Evil Half-Elf Bard. If he wants something he is going to take the fastest and easiest road to getting it. If it means killing somebody then he will kill them, but not if their are other "easier" options, eg: drugging them, beating them into a coma or just running them out of town.

Basically, the fact that *any* action is acceptable to him, doesnt mean he will do the worst, most vile option.
