OK this is a call out to the gamers with the art connection. Where do you go for your super sweet character pictures? Let us less learned players know!

If I really have an idea I love, I sketch that sucker. Practice makes perfect; it's amazing what a few years of *just* drawing an occasional character or looking at other people's artwork will do. The DnD books themselves are actually some of my favorite sources both as straight references, stylistic guidelines, and inspiration. I absolutely love the artwork (and I'll flip through em in bookstores just for the purty pictures).

One of my favorites just because it makes me chuckle:

Gotta love familiars. :D

There's also a thread in EnWorld (http://www.enworld.org/showthread.php?t=60925) for art requests. Chain Lightning in there is absolutely incredible (he's a professional artist) and the other contributers are great as well.

If you're on Wizards then you've already looked at the character art am I right?
I draw all my stuff. I have wanted to be a great artist for a long time. (I began drawing slimes and stuff from Dragon Warrior when I was a wee lass of five)
I took Human Anatomy and Physiology so that I could get muscle placement and movement down.
The only thing I can't figure out is how to get my drawings on to here. Any help (ie explanations that involve hand-holding and diagrams. Computers confound me unless they're the kind that have a controller attatched) would be appreciated.

BTW Adrian_Crane, that is a very cool picture. I showed it to my dad, who plays an Elven wizard called Fled Raziw. Yeah elf wizard backwards. He had a weasel familiar called Weezle Raziw. He laughed and said "Yeah! That's Weezle all right!"

I usually take existing pictures of actors / actresses I like and use photoshop on the picture to create a new portrait of my character. Photoshop isn't a really hard program to learn.

Else, if you're looking for portraits already made: http://nwvault.ign.com This is actually a Neverwinter Nights website, but it has a lot of character portraits (a couple thousands). Since most of them are in .tga or .jpg, you can use them on your character sheet :)

Also, there's http://araminta.net/~araminta/station/ It's a website full of scans of fantasy artists (Royo, Vajello, Bell, Giger, etc). Infortunatly, most of the pictures are (half-naked) women, but it still worth a look.

If you're looking to learn, yourself, you might try a book called "Drawing on the Right Side of the Brain." It's pretty solid in taking you from start to finish, as far as art books go.

I'd second that recommendation. And Shan, glad to know the sketch was well-received. :D
