So my gm came up with an awesome idea for a new Ebberon campaign, we're all kids of dragonmarked houses about 5 years from our test of Syberris, and we're spending the summer RPing online the 5 years to the test. Which is great, but I'm hitting some character blocks that I normally wouldn't when I create characters using character sheets. The year is 994.

So far, I've got most of the basic details worked out, but I tend to have more fleshed out characters and she just feels bare. Any suggestions big or small people could throw out would be awesome.

I'm Phialis d'Vadalis. I have my family tree traced back 5 generations, names and marks, but that's far too complicated to lay out so here's the important bits:

Mom's side: her mother has a least, dad has none, my mother has no dragon mark, nor does her brother

Dad's side: his mother has a greater, his father a lesser, my father has a greater, 2 of his siblings have a smaller mark

my older sister has a lesser, and my older brother has no dragon mark, younger sister is too young for marks. I have 10 first cousins, 3 with marks, and 4 too young to have them.

We live on an old family estate in the Eldeen Reaches. My father's family has been raising and training eagles and other birds of prey there for years, but their main focus is falcons. basically, we've been breeding the best in living, flying weapons for generations and with the war have been getting a little rich on the profits. Like all good Vadalis members though, this wealth isn't really horded. We live comfortably though with my father's mother (Phialis, the one with the greater mark).

My dad and his younger brother (TJ lesser) are currently away from the estate tending some new deliveries. My mother's family has been breeding horses and other pack animals for the past few generations, and we have a small amount of horses we train as well. My grandmother's hobby in old age is training carrier pigeons, also on the family estate.

my character's basically right now you're stereotypical running, jumping, climbing trees, wrestling with your cousins in the mud type 10 year old girl. Fishing is another family activity.

and here I'm stuck. As good Vadalis members, I do want them to have a lot of pets. I mean, this place should be just swarming with animals. I've given them a few family owned gryffins, but I feel blocked not having random number rolls to aid me.

Any suggestions for anything? anything at all?

Obviously destined to be a druid.
Maybe she would want to relocate some of these captive creatures back to the forests.
Tends to and nurses abandoned/wounded animals [both domestic and wild] back to health.
Wants to get cruel animal circuses banned

as i recall, the test of syberris (when a dragonmark originally appears) often happens under a trial of extreme duress. here's just an idea you might run with:

perhaps while "running, jumping, climbing trees, wrestling with your cousins", an accident happens in which you are faulted for a cousin's death (he fell out of a tree and broke his neck while you were supposed to be watching him, whatever). on top of that, he was your uncle's favorite son, and your uncle convinces your father that it was your fault as well. your grandmother who trains the pigeons, she gradually becomes your only source of respite in a family that is struggling not to despise and outcast you....

but after she dies, noone prevents two of your cousins from conspiring against you, and your dragonmark appears while you're fending yourself from the would-be murderers!

i personally like writing backgrounds that have continuing conflict written into them, it gives the DM something to work with as well as something for you personally to either resolve or avoid (such as putting to right perceived wrongs against your house, or avoiding your house at all costs because they want to bring you to justice).
