I've been mostly a DM, and I never played enough to have a very good character myself. There's a big convention with a few scenarios that I am going to rather soon, and I was wondering if it would be unethical to create a character already that level for the game. I wouldn't be able to get it to the required level (7) by the time it starts, so would it be wrong to create one at level 7? I am asking because whenever I have someone make a new character, I make them start at level 1.

Thanks!

I am sure you could. My dm starts us anywhere from 1-4 depends no how fast we want to hit the main story or stuff.

Not at all. There are games that START at Epic, and go from there! The game can start at whatever level you want it to. Just make sure all the characters start at the same level.

So long as the DM doesn't mind, I don't see why you couldn't pre-generate a character.
I've been to several Con's and some of the DM's even ASK you to bring a ready made character with you, others want you to make the character at the con.
It all depends on the DM. :)

Unless the rules specifically state that all characters must have been run from 1st level, go ahead (though how they'd verify it is beyond me).

As for ethics I don't really think its an issue, this isn't KoDT, you won't be put in the stocks and pelted with dice because "it isn't official."

That said creating characters above 1st level can be a real pain in the ass, especially when you have to purchase 27'000 gp worth of equipment.
