History:
Marduk was found by an elven adventurer called Conrad Silverhair outside Rauvincross. Conrad Silverhair is a Paladin who’s working for the Temple of Labelas Enoreth in Hilltop. He was hired by the city sheriff in Rauvincross to find and stop the sneak attacks by bandits in the Moon Pass. Through some research it turned out that some of the villagers sent a message to the bandits when a keepboat went downstream. Conrad managed to stop the bandits, and after killing the leader he found a little child which belonged to the bandit leader. Since none of the villagers wanted to adopt the bandit child, Conrad decided to adopt the child and raise him as his own. He returned to Temple of Labelas in Hilltop and started to raise the little child as a paladin. Marduk lived in the temple while his foster father Conrad was out adventuring. In the temple he used to sneak around in the temple and listen in on conversations and peak in spellbooks. All his life Marduk has been very curious, and will do a lot to obtain information.

While he lived in the temple, he was taught the basics of how to behave and be good person. Conrad gave Marduk an extensive education about law and justice. Since Marduk lived in the temple for free, he had to work for his stay. So he cleaned rooms, helped the clerics with their duties, and helped out in the library.

During the years he showed a great intellect, and he was taught the basics about the weave by an old wizard elven wizard called Rhistel Moondown who lived in the temple. Rhistel have been a huge factor in what sort of person Marduk has turned out to be. When Marduk turned sixteen years old, Conrad Silverhair told him that he had managed to get him into The Azuthian Academy Arcane. Thrilled by the idea that he would become a mighty wizard Marduk jumped to the idea. Two months later, Marduk and Conrad Silverhair traveled from Hilltop to Silverymoon. Conrad said goodbye, and promised to drop by when he was passing through the area.
At The Azuthian Academy Arcane, Marduk turned out to be the best in his class in divination. Somehow he was able to see the future without using magic, as if he had a natural gift for divination. Therefore Marduk decided to learn what he could about divination spells, and how to see the future. Because of his natural curiosity, he has become very good in obtaining information. Since knowledge is power in his eyes, he’s logging everything in his journal. As for now he has a few pages where the recent months and days are logged.

Personality:
Marduk is a strange man, who seem somewhat distant from the rest. He talks very slowly, and he spends a lot of time thinking about what to do. Even for very simple tasks he spends a lot of time planning on how to complete the task. He looks upon combat as a last resort. Marduk will try to find other ways than combat to solve problems. But he is a man of justice. If a man has committed something illegal, Marduk will make sure the authorities get to judge him. He is a man of honor, and will never take bribes, or betray his friends.

Appearance:
Marduk Three-eyes is a young man who just turned eighteen. He has a tattoo of an eye in the middle of his forehead, which makes him look like more like a diviner. He wears a beard, which isn’t fully grown because of his age, but he hopes one day to have a nice long beard. Marduk wears long red robes, with a lot of pockets to put scrolls or other things inside. He stands 5’9” and is a very thin man. Marduk have spent most of his life inside reading, and therefore he is a very pale man.

Quotes:
Knowledge is power
Knowledge before action

Greatest Strength:
His ability to obtain knowledge and his intellect.

Greatest Weakness:
He spends a lot of time before he takes any actions. He may seem a bit slow to people who don’t know him, because he spends a lot of time thinking about the possible outcomes of a scenario.

Traits and Mannerisms:
Is a collector of knowledge.

The Tome of Power
13. Kythorn 1371 DR
I decided to start writing a journal after my alchemist teacher, Gwyffral Hanyk, suggested that all good wizards keep a record of how their research is going. Since I love knowledge so much, I want this to be my Tome of Power. As we learned by a lecture of Merty the Reader, the head librarian, knowledge is power, and since my tome contains knowledge, it equals power.
I have stayed at the University for 18 months now. Thanks to Conrad who payed the fees. Without him, I wouldn’t have been where I am today. And I am on my way to become a great wizard.

26. Kythorn 1371 DR
During Library Techniques, a course at the university, I came over something strange in one of the books.

“We were having the Song of Dawn, the ritual where we praise The Morninglord. The focus of our ritual was Lathander’s Light, an artifact which could dispell all magical darkness. In the middle of the ritual a man appeared from nowhere, bypassing all our wards. The man carried a long black staff, with death magic which killed anyone he pointed it at. He wore an tight black outfit with the symbol of the number “8” tipped to the side. We tried to stop him, ten of our best clerics died protecting Lathander’s Light, but it didn’t stop the man. None of the magic we used against him worked. It seemed as if he was immune to out magic. When he had the holy relic in his hands he disappeared. We tried using divination spells to locate the relic, but no spells could locate it.
-Theros Athram, Highpriest of Lathander” (Theros’ Adventures Volume I, 1326DR)
Who was this strange man? I asked Merty about the book, and he seemed shocked. He dismissed me and told me to come back later. I wonder what made him react like he did.

27. Kythorn 1371 DR
I talked to Merty the Reader today. He told me he had read something similar to what I found in Theros’ Adventures Volume I. In a book called “The Truth about Forgotten Heroes Full of Sorrow” written in 1359 DR. Here’s an excerpt from page 74.

“It happened during the night. Otis Tarath, a great warrior who have protected our village [Deadsnows] from orc attacks and other dangers, was killed. There were no traces of who did it, so we made a cleric of Kossuth use magic to talk with the dead hero. Otis told Haraval, the cleric, about what had happened. Someone in a dark tight suit with a symbol of a tipped “8”, had magicaly appeared in his room at The Blazon. Otis tried to stop the man, who said three words before killing him: Paradoxes of time.”

Two days after the death of Otis, the orc attacked Deadsnows and killed Lord Gonomar, who later was replaced by a man called Lord Chaleye. Why did this happen? Why kill Otis? There is much to learn. I will talk to Merty later, I have to study for a test in Dweomercrafting.

16. Flamerule 1371 DR.
A lot have happened since last time I wrote in the Tome of Power. Merty the Reader have started a little secret group three years ago, which he has called Readers of Infinity. I have become a member, and are now searching all the books for information regarding these men who have the infinity symbol.

5. Eleint 1371 DR.
Lately it’s just been a lot of study for me to do. But last night at the library a friend called Meldon found another excerpt regarding the infinity men. This one was dated 702 DR. All it said was:
“One of my better trades was with a strange man who talked with a funny accent. He gave me 100 gold pieces for a map over Ascore. On his black robe he had a yellow infinity symbol.”
It’s from a book called The life of a Merchant, by Kulan the Rich. We are currently researching what happened in Ascore. It lays in ruins now, but nobody knows why. Hopefully more research will help us unravel the mysteries.

26 Uktar 1371 DR.
Conrad came by today. He told me about some adventure up in Moon Wood. There seemed some Moon-elven females have been kidnapped. Who or why is unknown. But Conrad and his companions managed to rescue three of the women. Conrad is heading back to Hilltop. And if I need any help, I can reach him there.
We now have regular meetings in The Readers of Infinity at the Scriptorium in Hunter’s District. The owner of the place, a half-elf called Luscor, allows us to use his cellar as a meeting place.

3. Hammer 1372 DR.
A whole new year. I am now eighteen years old. I guess. I still don’t know when I was born since I am the product of a bandit leader. I wish some of the things could have been different. Who’s my mother? Why didn’t I have a normal family like most of the other kids here at school?

25. Ches 1372 DR.
We, The Readers of Infinity have discovered one of the secrets to the Infinity people. Somehow they travel in time. And Merty thinks they are planning to take control over Faerûn in the past. And if you control the past, you control the future. I am scared, since there’s not many people who knows about this threat. We have come up with two names for the conspiracy at hand: The Rune’s Twist and The Reverse Freeze. Both are taken from books regarding the happenings. We will have a vote to which name we will use from now on next tenday.

30. Ches 1372 DR.
I have taken a great interest in time, and time travel paradoxes. I have read a few books about the problems and how everything works. In the future I will focus my study to divination regarding what have happened in the past. And what will happen in the future. If I know what will happen in the future, maybe I can prevent it from happening.
At the Scriptorium we decided to call the conspiracy The Reverse Freeze, since it’s the most describing name for what is happening.

3. Mirtul 1372 DR.
The graduation is getting closer and closer. What should I do after I’m graduated? If I had the money I could try to get into the divination specialist school, here at the university. I’ll see what time brings me.

30. Flamerule 1372 DR.
I am graduated. Tonight we will celebrate the graduation, and tomorrow I will start as an adventurer. It’s time I get some other experience than just reading books.

I got the idea about the Readers of Infinity from www.gemofthenorth.org (http://www.gemofthenorth.org), a great site

I have past really quickly on The Tome of Power, I don't have too much comments about that.
Your background is excellent. However I have a few comments.

If Conrad Silverhair raised you "as a paladin", how is it that your alignment is LN? Why can't you understand "pure goodness"? Also, how did Conrad took it when you became more interested in arcane studies than in paladinhood? Apparently really good, but it could have been the source of some conflicts.

I have some difficulties with the concept that the bandits leader was keeping a young child. If it was his son with some concubine, why that concubine couldn't keep the child? Unless the bandit leader was a woman...

About the feats, why do you spend a feat to help two skills that are cross-class? Is there a feat you could select that makes those skills always class-skill instead?

I like it, could give more details in the traits etc though.

And in what book do you find Mind over Body?

Interesting character.

For playing him, I'd try to come up with some sort of mannerism for some of his foretellings. Like holding your hand to your forehead and speaking in a monotone, with your eyes shut, everytime you say something really important.

Thanks for the comments. I think I will change a little of the background regarding his origin.

Update:
***
While in Rauvincross he was found by Conrad Silverhair in the woods. When he tried to return the child to the villagers in Rauvincross, nobody wanted to adopt the child, and the parants were nowhere to be found. Conrad searched around for the parents, but in the end, he decided to adopt the child as his own. And teach him the path of the rightous.

Marduk spent most of his life in the temple in Hilltop, where he was tought how to be a fair man, and be kind to every soul on Faerun.

Tome of power 30. Flamerule 1372 DR.
They are here! Last night I saw one of them. He was strangely clothed in a black suit with an eights tipped to the side. Just as I read in Theros Adventures Volume I. I followed him to Beggar's Alley in Goodman's District. I used my magic to look like a beggar and entered the Alley. This is the first time I have seen such a place. Thieves, *****s and beggars all over. I blended with the crowd and saw him. He was six feet tall, a huge man, and in his belt he had two wands and a longsword. Maybe he is some sort of a battlemage of some kind. The man was met by a man in fancy purple clothes. Looked like a bard with a pointy nose and some strange boots. The boots were looked like they where on four places at once. Some kind of magical blur. As I was standing there, a young woman came over to me and asked me for my purse. I'm not a good liar, so all I managed to tell her was that I waiting for someone. I was left alone for a while. The battlemage and the bard entered one of the buildings, and as I started to follow, one of the beggars stopped me. He looked dangerous. With his little quarterstaff and his tooth. I ran. Didn't look back, but all I heard was laughing. I returned to the Scriptorium. There I told what had happened to Luscor, who was the only one there. He told me to return to the University, and wait there, until he got back to me. He never returned.

Conrad didn't want his son to become a paladin. I will change that part. But he wanted him to be tought justice. And the way the paladin thinks regarding justice.

I'm thinking of making a little injustice happen to Marduk at an early age, and therefore through his education and will alone he will be a man who will bring justice to all. This is the reason why I chose investigator feat. I wanted him to be someone who will help the authorities solve murders and thefts. The use of magic will also be used as a tool in discovering the thruth.

Are there any ideas for other feats I can take instead of investigator?
Mind over body is from Faerun players handbook. Very good feat;)

I like your idea Trydan. If you have any other ideas please share them:)
