I would like some help with this character's personality. His background is fine, but his personality just isn't sticking. Thanks in advance. Character Background- Kalas- Human Bronze Dragon Shaman Youth- Kalas was born in a small fishing village. His parents raised him with a strict sense of right and wrong, but he still told small lies if it was to his benefit. He was never able to fully break the habit, but he did learn the importance of the truth, in most situations, that is. Kalas had heard legends of a bronze dragon living nearby, but he didn’t really believe them, mostly because no one had seen the dragon for years. Adolescence- Kalas’s early years were easy. Helping out down at the docks, and occasionally going out fishing on his father’s boat, as well as hanging out with his friends, were some of his prime activities. Once, Kalas found a bronze scale while he and his friends were exploring, which he now wear’s as a medallion and good luck charm. Notable Events- Kalas’s life was changed when he went sailing to a small island about a mile of the coast from his village. He was alone, and he had decided to use that time for some pleasure fishing and exploring on the island. Unfortunately for him, an Adult Black Dragon had taken up residence on the island, and didn’t appreciate visitors. Kalas was attacked, his boat destroyed, and he was knocked into the water. Just as Kalas thought it was all over for him, the Black Dragon was yanked beneath the waves. Kalas ducked beneath the water and discovered an Old Bronze Dragon fighting the Black. The Black eventually fled, and the Bronze surfaced under Kalas. He brought Kalas back to his lair, and helped him to discover the dragon within him. Under the Old Bronze’s tutelage, Kalas discovered a trace of draconic blood within him. He embraced this, and used this to sharpen his senses to be more like a dragon’s, and to grow a tail, as a physical manifestation of his draconic blood. When Kalas left the Bronze Dragon, he had discovered some of the Bronze Dragon’s power, and was hungry for more. Recent- Kalas left the Bronze Dragon and returned to the town. Most of the people had given him up for dead, but his family had held out a small sliver of hope, and was overjoyed to see that he was alive. Kalas stayed in the town for a little while longer, and then grew board. He decided to leave the small town of his birth in search of glory, riches, adventure, and power. Pleasures and Pastimes- Saul enjoys anything that has to do with the sea, be it swimming, fishing, or sailing. He wishes to buy a ship, so that he can enjoy life on the open sea. Personality- Kalas uses his power for two purposes: to protect the weak and to gain more power. He refuses to allow anyone to stand in the way of his road to power, but he will not harm an innocent being for power’s sake, nor will he allow his personal quest to bring harm to innocent beings. When he uses his power to help others, he does not always ask for a reward, though he will never refuse one. While he was with the Bronze, Kalas picked up many of its characteristics. He had already loved the sea, and he had grown to share the Bronze’s love of animals and the outdoors, and learned to survive there. Kalas envied the Bronze Dragon’s ability to disguise itself, and so he taught himself to disguise himself non-magically, though Kalas’s tail was a bit of a problem. Kalas adopted the Bronze’s deity Bahamut, and worships casually.
