| patch2409-22-06, 08:25 AM | Does anyone get character portraits professionally illustrated anymore? I remember that being popular back in my college days, but I don't see it happening much anymore. I guess with freebees around like Hero Generator, there's little need to pay for it? Is there some other reason (fast and furious gameplay leading to shorter-lived characters etc)? |
| Need_A_Life09-26-06, 01:45 PM | I use portraits, but due to a mix of heavy kills in the campaign as well as my lack of drawing skills, I usually find pictures on the net that fit my idea so-and-so. Of course, I do write long backgrounds instead so it's not because I don't get attatched to characters. |
| OldManWinter09-30-06, 12:31 AM | I like to use the art work from here: http://www.wizards.com/default.asp?x=dnd/arch/ag to make my character sheets. Here's one that isn't done yet but I think it still looks pretty good. Fash Bermin (http://winter.bounceme.net/dnd/Whisper.pdf) I still need to write up his back history, buy his equipment, and finally fix a lot of the formatting. I love that he has a +17 to his hide skill at level 1. And for anyone who pays attention, all of those rolls were witnessed by the DM (we use roll 4d6 pick the best 3) using the same dice as the other players. I just happened to have a whole stable worth of horse shoes with me that day. |
| Larz_Fang10-11-06, 04:16 AM | Well, when I used to DM a group of newbies about little over a year ago I taught them to draw their character portraits along with their character sheets. Wasn't exactly easy since it takes years of practice to perfect your drawing skills, but it turned out nicely, though there were some problems about the size scale when compared to members of other races. One such problem came when I tried to get them all play members of common races, and the party's fighter wanted to be nothing else than a half-ogre because he wanted to be taller than others. It took 3 days until he got the size right. I have always liked drawing, so I always make portraits to every single one of my characters. I have played as half-elf fighter\wizard, human sorcerer, half-troll barbarian, human skeleton fighter, half-orc paladin, brownie wizard\druid and now I play as a flesh golem. I just love to draw more pictures of their adventures and I don't think I will ever stop drawing. |
| Tempest_Dnate_Rown10-14-06, 02:26 PM | an easy alternative to drawing could be getting a video game that allows char customization and using that to show at least a good i dea of what you want your char to look like. |
