I am playing a (Insert Class+Race here) with the following stats:

Str: 17
Dex: 8
Con: 15
Int: 11
Wis: 13
Cha: 8

Alignment: Chaotic Good

Can someone give me suggestions on what kind of a character he could be(also a good race and class for him would be fine as well.)

Please, I really need help.

There are a lot of things you can do with this character.

Starting with posting this in the Character Optomization forum ;)

Really, though, you've got to give us some idea of where you want to go...

Isn't this the board where I post the character that I want help developing personality and background?

I was thinking of making him maybe a Monk of somekind...

Are you allowed to switch the stats around?

Hmm... well, your physical stats are suggesting a fairly average (if heavily-armoured) Fighter - somebody who, despite not being terribly nimble, is reasonably strong and tough. Given the above-average Wisdom, I'd suggest playing somebody with a quiet kind of common sense - they're overlooked in general, since they don't have great people skills (hence the below-average CHA) and are only of an average Intelligence, but if a person ever stops to listen to them, they are actually quite strong-willed, and have a good idea of how the world works.

Perhaps a slightly aging person, as that may work well for the feel of it (and support the poor DEX). Alternately I might suggest a dwarf or half-orc - stat mods aside, people generally don't tend to consider these races to be the wisest of people, and the tendency of people to consider them nothing but dumb fighter-tanks would support the lower CHA as well.

I would suggest fighter. Get a good armor and you'll become a tank. Half-orc or dwarf would be a possibility but those would lead to a really low charisma. I don't know if you want to play that.

You are thinking about a monk, but a monk with 8 dex? I don't know about that.

Yeah, I would go for a big, strong, not so friendly soldier type. As said before, he isn't the smartest (althought certainly not dumb) but he does have keen insight and good senses. He could be the tough, silent professional. He can take a lot and deal out even more, but don't ask him to dodge the blow. He'll take 'em head on.

Good Str and Con lend themselves nicely to tanking-fighters. With poor Dex, you can then go the Full-Plate/Tower-shield route and rumble your way through the enemy at a snails pace, being unable to be touched and if so, shrugging off the pathetic damage.

But how about something a little unusal? My other suggestion is a multiclass, starting with Barbarian and then multiclassing into either Druid or Cleric. It would end up being a strong, powerful, but slow shaman-type.

I would suggest a Fighter/Cleric who forms the backbone of the party (if you all have comparable stats that is - unless they are all high stated re-roll or be left at the way-side); an oak-tree kind of a person who roots them all in a combat situation.
Mr. VanderMeer

Yeah Fighter/Cleric might be a good choice. Raise your wisdom at level 4 etc. and you can become pretty good at this.

I really HATE low-CHA clerics. You suffer a penalty on effecting undead, but moreover, I see clerics as people about spreading a faith, and as such I think should have at least average CHA in order to win friends and influence people.

Sorry, but I think I'll go with Trydans example and go with a multiclass Barbarian/Druid.

And no, my DM is adament about Stats, we roll 3d6 for each one and are not allowed to change them.

Maybe a mystic like person who has a lot of insight, but isn't a very good people person. What could I attribute his low Dexterity to?

I like that! Low CHA Druids don't rankle me like low CHA Clerics. You're a warden of the wilderness - who cares if people like you! What race are you looking at? Human? Possibly Wild Elf? Or something more off the wall?

I only get to pick the Player Handbook races, so probably Human.

Being an Elf would just make my Dex average, and hurt my Constitution, so yes, probably a Human(to avoid Multiclass penalty)

Barbarian/Druid should work fine for you. (You will probably have an AC problem though).

His low dex (it's still close to average) could be described by him being a little clumsy. A bit big and slow. Or maybe he spent so much time in nature that he is becoming a bit rigid like the trees.

One option: Wise Strong Ox.

Someone who looks strong and very healthy, yet who has a calmness and an iner vision about him. Even if others may think of him a dumb ox, he really does know his stuff ... it's just hard to convince others he knows his stuff and to get them to follow his ideas. Not impossible, but harder.

You could be like a football linebacker ... so I would say go for fighter. Low dex? Use armor. Take a level or two in cleric and add the Travel domain so as to get two good wisdom based skills to your list. The advantage is that you can still use heavy weapons and heavy armor.

Just my note on style of play: I would rather have a good character at RPing then have a good character altogether, I also play 3.0, not 3.5.

Can someone help me on a background and description.

We are playing in the Dragonlance setting, so I was thinking of making my guy a Barbarian from the plains of dust.

His name is going to be something like 'Keeyotee' or similiar name.

I don't think i'm well-versed enough on Dragonlance to give you much help in character background. However, I have a bit of a strange suggestion to expain the dex. Maybe the character was sick with some type of fever when he was younger and since then has pretty constant arthritis in his joints. His lower Dex could merely be a reflection of this pain slowing him down. Just a thought that came to me reading your ideas...don't really know if it would be all that interesting :P

The pain could also help explain his charisma...even though he might be young...he may have the attitude and irritability of a much older man.

Well, with Barbarian/Druid, you are starting as a Barbarian. So, that means some sort of tribal background. Although I'm not familiar with Dragonlance, it shouldn't be too difficult to peruse a world-map, and find a wilderness area, with habitation by an appropriate race, not too far from the action of your campaign. (Don't start the PC too far away, otherwise you'll have a hard time justifying why he/she met up with the others in the group.

Next, answer the following questions:
Why did the PC take up the druid's way of life?
Was there some event or incident, or did the PC slowly drift into this role?
As a druid, what are the PCs main motivations?
Are they interested in protecting nature, fighting civilisation, or some other agressive stance?
Or are they some sort of pacifist, more interested in healing, soothing and charming?
Does the PC rely on spells, or do they carry a weapon? If so, why that choice of weapon, be it spear, scimitar, quarterstaff, etc. ?
What would cause the PC to cross paths with the other characters?
What would make the pC join them (or they join him/her)?
Well, if you can answer some of these questions, you'll be on the way to making a character background/motivation. It will also provide the other readers of this post some ideas for where to start offering advice or suggestions.

Good luck with it.

Oh, and I should mention that a visit to the Character Optimisation board might help you come up with some ideas for how to cope with a low Dex. But be careful to state that it is for this class combination that you want help, otherwise the responses will be trying to talk you into BaseClass.1/PrC.X/PrC.Y/PrC.Z with a complete reroll of stats, DM, players, etc. etc.

Assuming that is what you want, of course!
