| mercurywyrm09-19-04, 10:01 PM | This character is in a world where most humanoids are enslaved or in the service of dragons and all communities are owned by some dragon or another, Circie has no last name because she is an orphan and was raised by a gnome illusionist. I have created a unique spell for her at every level and have most/all her equipment decorated with dragonflies as well as many of her coustom spells dealing with dragonflies. The PC group we will be in is starting at 13th level and she is pure wizard class. The PC group is starting out as servants of a Red Dragon. I am trying to develop her character further and would appreciate imput. I plan on her being True Neutral alignment. Some of her spells are things such as summon celestial dragonfly swarm, dragonfly aspect, Circie's Kiss, and Call Circie's Burrow. I plan on taking the wand mastery feat from ebberon. In her history she traveled breifly in a planar rip of some sort and saw a beutiful swarm of celestial dragonflies moving through a huge set of icy mountains and one landed on her finger and took off again after she got a good look at it. This is what inspired her dragonfly theme in character. Any advice, ideas opinons out there? |

It's very much in the nature of elves and to a slightly lesser extent half-elves to be rebellious to oppression, so your character and even her "father" could be part of a sort of resistance group. Circie and the other PCs (maybe a couple NPCs?) have been planning a "revolt/escape" for a long while, spring into action during whenever in your campaign, but the idea of being covert revolutionaries is actually pretty easy to integrate into that sort of campaign. Assuming you add Diplomacy, Bluff, and Sense Motive to your wizard's skill list, which would make sense in that sort of world. |

| Morka09-21-04, 09:41 AM | If she has some link with the Celestials Dragonflies, she could think of herself as being chosen by some higher force of good. That could make her arrogant, vain (dragonflies could be nothing but beautiful), intolerant toward greed and pure destruction, a fervent protector of freedom. Most of these qualities should make her Chaotic Good, so she could either be half-hearted in her convictions, or have many flaws to balance her alignment to True Neutral. Like I said, arrogance and vanity could be such flaws. Oh, and I hope you will have a Celestial Giant Dragonfly as familiar? |
| shadow mage09-21-04, 07:00 PM | I second Morka's familiar idea, it shouldn't be that hard to draw up stats for that. I do see her as being...well, chaotic good so to speak. She's opressed, probably fighting for her freedom or will be very soon against a very powerful foe, so she has to be at least a little rebellious and fierce. Especially to be directly disobeying a "master" who is also a powerful red dragon. The good/neutral/evil is dependent on what all she is willing to do to escape slavery, and level of ferocity pretty much extends in that order. CG characters will be good about it, kinda, but still feisty and rebellious. CN characters won't care overly much about others, though they will a little especially if it increases their odds of getting out. CE characters will do absolutely anything for freedom, including using another party member as "bait" and using magic to delay them to distract enemies. Regardless of what path you choose, I suggest her spells be made accordingly. Most of them will be Divinations, Attack/Defense, and subterfuge related. As the "slave" of a red dragon (possibly rape victim as well to dragon's lackies?) she would likely not have the time to develope a more rounded spell list, hers likely centraling on stealth, spy, attack/defend, mobility/escape. Minimal summoning, few transmutations, etc. A point I'd like to make though. Straight wizard is...hm. Something you might consider changing. If anything only a few levels (three or so) in a PrC just to give a few more abilities to the wizard. Then, when the option's available, I see archmage written all over this. And this isn't even the Mage Optimizer in me speaking. Arcane Fire with your dragonfly theme is too perfect, as is spellpower. |
| mercurywyrm09-29-04, 02:47 AM | Hmm, thanks for the replies, I think I would need to modify my feat choices for a familiar like that. Right now I am just gonna not have a familiar. The character used to be good but was conscripted into the dragon's forces and has since been forced to do some pretty bad things, but has been to afraid to rebel. She has friends who are well known to the dragon and a "little brother" who is also a half elf orphan and her cohort (10th level fighter). I do have her rather feisty though, she likes setting traps, just like gnomes, and also has a penchant for random acts of romance (often somewhat manipulative romance) and has no qualms about using her looks to get her way. Rarely does she even need a charm spell (Cha of 16, skill choices include diplomacy and bluff). Her defensive spells are mostly illusions allthough she has a few good abjurations. Her primary offense and defense come from wands as she is a wand specialist. She has that feat from Ebberon that increases the caster level and save DC of wands you use. She may return to good or end up being corrupted by circumstances and turn evil depending on how the campaign goes, if she turns evil I think she will research as spell for feindish dragonflies. I plan on giving her a wand of sheild, magic missile (whatever level she can get max missiles at with her ebberon feat), fireball, lightning bolt, mage armor, Melf's Acid Arrow, and possibly a few more. She has a spell that summons a giant celestial dragonfly which she often rides on in combat and can create acidic sprays. She also has a spell that move her burrow to her current location allong with all the stuff in it, really fast. She also has a nice enchantment spell which is almolst like a sort term suggestion/geas combined with a heroism like effect. And casts her magic missiles and hypnotic pattern spells with dragonfly visuals added on. (her missiles look like dragonflies and the hypnotic pattern resebles dragonfly wings) |
