| Lardalish04-11-07, 05:07 PM | Ok, so one of my friends is starting a campaign but he wants each of the players to play two characters. So, I would like to know what a good combo of characters would be? Preferably nothin with a rogue since Im already playing one. Now, the DM has said this would be more of an RP campaign so somethin that makes sense also, for instance a rogue probly wouldnt pal around with a paladin. So Im basically just lookin for some ideas that are cool and not optimized, maybe somethin you guys suggest will jumpstart me. |
| The Smartest Lemming04-11-07, 07:47 PM | Well there is the classic Fighterish/Wizard combo. Others would be two Dwarven friends/brothers (or any race really) fighterish characters who fight using teamwork (one's a Dwarven war axe/shield, the other is a spear, or they could use shield wall feats to give them better ac's whenever they fight side to side, and if I remember correctly they had a Feat called Thunder Twins back in 3rd Ed for the Dwarven brother idea. If you want something funny, you could put together a shotput team. I don't remember the Presige class, but the basic idea was a human who went around with goblins or halflings and threw them at an enemy during battle. I'm sure if you ask around, someone still has the link I saw to the class. If you want something a little more interesting, and your DM is ok with it, you could play a necromancer, and one of his favorite undead minions. The list could go on forever, what you might want to do is figure out what class you really really want, after you've done that start trying to figure out what kind of friend he or she would have. Another example would be two apprentice wizards just out of the academy traveling around together. You could also change the idea alittle and have it be a paladin and a cleric just out of seminary. What you really want to do though, is once you've got the idea, make up something better than just Two Dwarven brothers traveling outside of their clans mountian, or the paladin and cleric just out of seminary. Maybe the cleric is a little touched in the head, and really really loves her god, but is a complete clutz/mess up, and the clergy decided that the best way that she could serve their god would be away from everyone else. So they sent her out on a quest for the "holiest of holy artifacts", an example would be a shard of the Sun for a Sun god. In reality, they know that she won't return to them until she has found the object of her quest, and since the object is ficticious, she won't come back. Maybe the paladin is her best friend and knows whats up, and leaves with the cleric to protect his friend. Roleplaying points could be searching for the artifact of course, maybe a fight between the friends when the paladin tries to talk some sense into his friend, or maybe if the DM wants to the shard could be an actual artifact unknown to everyone else and something could happen there. Whatever you do make sure to give them very different personalities, because playing two drunken dwarves gets old twice as fast. Also make sure to give them both equal attention, so that one does not just become an extra sword, or mobile healer for the game. |
| Terjon of the Blue Rose04-12-07, 01:40 AM | For RPing I always loved the ascetic monk and lavish sorcerer myself. One trains vigourously to attain a perfect union of body, mind, and spirit. The other drinks and loves life yet attains equal if not greater power. Makes for a great dichotomy. |
| Lardalish04-12-07, 01:40 PM | Ok, I think Ive narrowed it down to two possibilities, one serious, and one kinda light-hearted which would need a higher than normal starting level. Serious: Couple of Half Orc brothers out to adventure for the good of the (town? tribe?), a barbarian and a _______. Not sure what I want for that second one, I want some sort of caster, and I want somethin more connected to nature rather than the arcane, so naturally I think Druid, but just wanna know what else might fit the bill. Also, some tips on RPing a Half Orc, dunno if theres anythin majorly different than any other race. Light Hearted: An Ogre Barbarian and a Halfling Fighter, buddies for some reason, ogre chucks the halfling into the battle then charges in himself. Might need some special rules for this one so I dont just kill the halfling every time I chuck him. Like I said, I would need a higher starting level because of the ogre's LA, and the DM might not wanna deal with the chucking rules. So what do you guys think about those two? |
| Ensjak04-12-07, 09:37 PM | I like the serious combo. But that's just because I don't dig monstrous PCs. As for another nature oriented caster class you might try the spirit shaman from complete arcane I believe. Might be complete divine, I don't remember which. |
| trickydevl66604-13-07, 12:07 AM | Spirit Shaman is complete divine. And I like the serious combo as well. Some other nature-ish characters could be Wu Jen or Shugenja... Wu Jen because I think they are very flavorful, Shugenja because... I kind of always wanted to play a shugenja... With the Half-Orc... in Races of Destiny they have some pretty fun substitution levels for half orc barbarian and druid... I wasn't too fond of the ogre/halfling one... For some reason I like the idea of a bard and swashbuckler... I don't know why... But i think you could find something a whole lot more fun for the light-heartedness |

Like I said, I would need a higher starting level because of the ogre's LA, and the DM might not wanna deal with the chucking rules. You can find those rules in Races of Stone. I love the idea of a little wisecracking rogue running around with a big dumb brute. Maybe the little guy sticks with the barbarian because when nobody respects him, his buddy still stands up for him. When the big guy gets in over his head though, the little one is always there to pull him out of the fire. I can see a whole Of Mice and Men thing going on. |
| Vanulf04-15-07, 09:09 PM | If you are already playing a Rogue in this campaign, how about adding a Swashbuckler to go along with him/her. |
| Sang-Drax04-22-07, 04:26 PM | You know what, Rogue and Paladin could do a cool party RPwise. They could be like friends from childhood, but from different social classes - which doesn't really matter when it comes to children. For some reason they meet again and, well... that's pretty much up to the DM. But that could be fun stuff. |
| KillFrenzy04-23-07, 02:49 AM | a psycho warmad fighter who is as tough as nails but has no grace and a sneaky observant scout who is very stealthy but couldnt win a real fight to save their life and i always thought a samurai and ronin would be funny or even a samurai and a ninja who without a doubt would be two very opposite classes who come from the same cookie jar |
| Fithero04-25-07, 09:17 AM | A trio of classes that ive always wanted to try is a Knight/Paladin/Samurai. If all were LG, some very interesting roleplaying situations could arise. They each have the same desires, but their methods and motives could be totally different. |
