Alrighty, onto the meat and potatoes. I have a player in my campaign who used to be a DM back in 2nd ed/just post-2nd ed. 3rd ed. His GM character was a cleric of Pelor who was a member of a secret sect of clerics known as The Sun Children, which granted them the power to manifest the divine light of Pelor as a weapon. That was years ago, and now he's a player in a "revamp" of the old campaign. For a while, he's been looking for ways to get the ability to manifest Divine Light again. I came up with a build for him recently. He's going to be (at 20th level) Cleric 10, Master of Radiance 5, Sacred Purifier 5. He is currently Cleric 5, Master of Radiance 2 (we have a house rule on crossclass skills.) I also changed the Master of Radiance a bit (gave them proficiency with the Longbow, as in the world, the Elves are the ones that created the class.) Essentially, what I'm asking, is, well, is he going to be viable in combat at later levels, and does the flavor match that of what he had in 2nd ed.? |

(i'm not familiar with the master of radiance and sacred purifier classes) perhaps you should tyr posting the same thing on the character optimization board. this seems ( to me) to be more of a game mechanics question and i think the frequent posters over there will be able to help you out better. that's just my take on it |

(*realizes he uses "guess" too much*) The Children of the Sun were (in 2nd ed., only this DM's campaign world) a group of Pelor's worshipers that were organized into a secret society of the god's chosen warriors, always from cleric and paladin stock (And now other class options would be available, such as Favored Souls). These warriors were trained to be able to channel Pelor's holy energy as often as they needed, but doing so drained them of stamina. This secret society was tasked with specialized and elite missions as well as the recovery of ancient artifacts that were either lost to time, or recently stolen. Master of Radiance is a 5-level PrC from Libris Mortis that has 4/5 casting progression. It grant s an ability usable 1/day/odd level that sheds light like a sunrod and allows the cleric to use Searing Light 1/round at no cost (among other things). Sacred Purifier is also a 5-level PrC from the same book that grants 4/5 casting progression, Greater Turning, Positive Energy Burst, and other things to help Undead. Essentially, they become excellent Light-based warriors as well (with the positive energy and whatnot) that are really good against undead. Basically I'm just wondering if the flavor of the two classes combined fits the original flavor that our old DM had worked up, even though nobody here has experience with it. I guess its an odd question, to say the least. |
