I'm looking for suggestions on possible motivators that would cause a character who's taken a vow of peace  to adventure. The only motivation I thought of myself was concern for others. Any thoughts?

What does the description of Vow of Peace say about such characters? There should be a good motivation in it.

Learning is part of adventuring and going out into the world as an adventurer is aslo a test of your faith and willpower ie can you keep to that vow of peace when the situation gets very hairy. So the cleric could choose to take up a life as an adventurer in order to learn, to assist others, and to personally put themselves to a test of faith and willpower.

IF you don't want it to be his/her choice/original idea could always have his/her mentor/church heirachy suggest/make him/her go out into the world with the goal of assisting a particluar group of people so that he/she can learn to deal with those people who have not taken a vow of peace.

Peace does not mean sitting at home.

Quick questions -
is part of your vow of peace total non-violence?

or does your vow only restrict you from aggresive violence?

Does you vow allow you to restrain someone as long as you do not cause them permanent harm ( for game play - no hit points or permanent ability lost)?

Hope this helps with character background

I actually had a mate who wanted to join the army and become a field medic to patch up the wounded...not actually fight, so it is possible. Just a desire to help out others... perhaps that Prc from heros of battle would be a good idea.

Personally i think its a good idea. Cleric up... full plate armor...a shield and a buckler...then go round healing and buffing ...sweet :P

Perhaps you wish to ensure that adventurers, who pursue a bloody lifestlye, do not fall too far to destructive urges, and keep them focussed on righteousness. Be the conscience of the party when they get caught up in evil, and never let them stray too far from the path of good.

Hope it works for ya!

With all of the chaos and strife in the world (whatever world that may be), you are dedicated to bringing peace to the ravage world. By doing this you have joined an adventuring group as a means of lighting the fire of tranquility your life's work now demands...

Thats one way of looking at it...
