I've heard that the Devourer is mainly worshipped by Sahuagins, goblinoids, and sailors would often make an offering to him by throwing something of value off board before a rather promissing storm of destruction and mayhem. My cleric isn't inherently evil, he believes that by harnessing the destructive powers he can direct them to a better (his) cause, and he can learn to protect himself from such disasters. Now where could he come from to have learned of such a harsh way to live and think? |

He could have learned those teachings everywhere (well, except Thrane), though the churches wouldn't try to call attention to themselves, as the Dark Six are frowned upon/assaulted by most. It's easy to be good and worship the dark six, just follow the teaching that "through hardship shall we prosper and become strong" |

Perhaps your character's father was a sailor, gone for weeks/months at a time, who taught your character what he/she knows? Perhaps your character lives in a village/town on the outskirts of a volcano/faultline/floodplain? Perhaps your character's childhood/adolescence was marked by a single disaster that shaped his/her life when a hurricane/forest fire/drought destroyed half the community? |
