| Kakita Yoshi04-17-04, 10:24 AM | Hello first off a little about the campaign I am jumping into. I was told that everyone was lvl 4, and by the time I join they should be lvl 5. There are already 6 players, and they are missing two core classes (well three if you ask me we have a sorc, and not a wiz, but that is just a personal thing ;) ), the cleric and the ranger. This got me thinking what if I made a cleric that truly hated undead, and multy class cleric/ranger. fav enemy would be undead, and I would go with two weapon fighting stile, and go with two maces. I am thinking about going with elf, but I am not sure about that. Could anyone give me some back ground idea's, and any tips on rping this kind of hybrid? I am kind of at a loss at this point  . I was told it was not rp heavy, but I still like to do it. |

Most elven clerics tend to favor the bow, but as an undead hunter you can definitely break this mold being that bludgeoning weapons tend to be more reliable against skellies and such. I'd lean toward more levels of cleric than ranger. It will probably be more needed by the party and provide a bigger pay-off at higher levels. I'm not certain which world setting you will be playing in (FR, Greyhawk, or homebrew) but here are some good resources to look into: Deities and Demigods: Best source for Greyhawk deities and decent source for info on non-Forgotten Realms elven pantheon. Faiths and Pantheons: Great source for info on the various Elven Gods. If you are thinking of a human, check out Shaundakul and his Windwalker Prestige class which works very well for ranger/clerics or Kelemvor and his doomguide prestige kit for a character even more focused on killing undead. Book of Exalted Deeds: Take a look at Lion of Talisid and Sentinel of Bharrai for two classes that will benefit any cleric with a leaning toward nature. Sarta |

Think about it: higher clerical casting means better turning checks, meaning you don't even have to bother engaging the undead in melee because they either flee and cower (and then are easy picking for your friends), or they are destroyed utterly. This beats a mediocre +2 to damage vs undead in my book.. You'll also be healing and buffing better. Heck, if you really want to destroy undead, I suggest the Eye of Horus-Re PrC from Player's Guide to Faerun. You get to use Greater Turning (the granted power of the Sun domain - any undead you would normally turn is destroyed instead) 4 + cha modifier times in a day! That's amazingly powerful. You can also release a burst of positive energy that harms all undead within 100ft of you, dealing at least 8d6 damage unless they make reflex saves for half. Not to mention you get permanent True Seeing, too, at 10th-level in the PrC. Incredible stuff, I think. But you might really want to hold on to your cleric/ranger dual-wielding maces, so I apologize for not giving you any ideas in that department. |
